Overview

Senior Environmental Engineer - Water Services Group at CDM Smith. This position can be based at any of our Virginia offices. The role involves managing and executing complex water management initiatives with a focus on water treatment, quality, and conservation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams to create water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, remediation sites, solid waste facilities, and other engineering designs of moderate to high complexity to meet client project requirements.
  • Review draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state and local regulations; sign off on completed designs; ensure firm policies and practices are followed; perform site reviews and studies as needed.
  • Perform water quality analyses and modeling.
  • Contribute to firm\'s Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation; submit papers and designs for publishing where applicable.
  • Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals; review drafts for adherence to regulations and best practices.
  • Meet with current and potential clients to review design needs; attend conferences to improve visibility of the firm\'s products and services; act as a point of contact for external clients and related industry contacts.
  • Collaborate with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions and provide updates to project management.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor and develop them for future growth; may supervise junior engineers on project work.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 12 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required (travel frequency depends on duties and project demands).
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification/License: Professional Engineer.

Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering design principles.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.

Travel

Estimated travel: 10% of time.
