Job Description
The Pipe Layer Foreman / Civil Construction Mentor is a senior-level field leader responsible for guiding, coaching, and overseeing pipe laying and civil construction crews. This role ensures that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards, while fostering a culture of mentorship, teamwork, and continuous improvement on-site.
Key Responsibilities
Mentorship & Leadership
- Act as a role model, mentor, and technical guide for pipe layers and civil laborers, particularly junior staff and new hires.
- Provide on-the-job training in safe work practices, equipment use, and adherence to project specifications.
- Encourage skill development and monitor progress through regular feedback and coaching.
- Facilitate daily briefings and toolbox talks to reinforce safety, quality, and productivity.
Project Oversight & Technical Execution
- Oversee pipe installation operations including water, sewer, drainage, and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Ensure proper layout, elevation, and grade using lasers, levels, and measuring tools.
- Review and interpret blueprints and specifications to guide field operations.
- Monitor installation quality, perform pressure and leak tests, and ensure compliance with standards.
Site Coordination & Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with heavy equipment operators, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure efficient workflow.
- Assist in planning daily tasks and allocating manpower appropriately.
- Act as the liaison between the field crew and the Manager of Projects to report progress, issues, or required resources.
Safety & Quality Assurance
- Uphold and enforce all company and industry safety regulations.
- Conduct safety audits and ensure all crew members are using proper PPE and safe procedures.
- Inspect work areas for hazards, verify use of erosion control, and oversee proper backfilling and site maintenance.
- Ensure all testing (pressure, chlorination, etc.) and quality control procedures are followed and documented.
Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of daily logs, job progress reports, equipment checklists, and Salus safety reports.
- Maintain records of training, incidents, and work performance for mentees.
- Report equipment damage or safety concerns promptly to the Equipment Manager.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42.00-$48.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:
- Saanichton, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
Education:
- Secondary School (preferred)
Experience:
- civil pipe laying : 5 years (preferred)
- Safety related : 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- class 5 driver license (required)
