Your Opportunity The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operational oversight of all campus libraries and learning commons. Under the general direction of the Associate Dean, the Manager supervises library support staff and Success Centre teams across campuses, ensuring consistent front-line service delivery across campuses, including oversight of circulation and borrower services and academic learner support services.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of Library and Learning Commons, and Success Centre services and spaces across four campuses, ensuring consistent, high-quality service aligned with College policies.
- Work with campus library staff to develop, maintain, and share operational documentation, including procedures, workflows, and service standards.
- Implement approved operational changes in collaboration with librarians and campus library staff, monitoring outcomes to identify efficiencies, risks, and campus-specific needs.
- Manage operational issues and service disruptions, including staffing challenges, patron concerns, emergencies, and space-related issues, ensuring service continuity and timely escalation.
- Implement and support health and safety practices, emergency responses, and business continuity procedures for library and Success Centre operations.
- Ensure operational compliance with collective agreements, College policies, operational guidelines, and financial control procedures.
- Supervise library and Success Centre support staff, including recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance feedback, discipline, and professional development.
- Assist with recruitment, supervision, training, and management of student employees across campuses.
- Coordinate staffing coverage for campus libraries and Success Centre service points, including evenings and weekends.
- Communicate operational expectations and service commitments clearly to staff.
- Foster a respectful and collaborative work environment that supports inclusive and ethical practices.
- Analyze enrolment, service, and usage patterns to support operational planning and prepare recommendations for short and long-term staffing needs.
- Coordinate approved operational projects and service improvements, including preparing operational plans, timelines, and cost estimates.
- Collect and report operational data to support service evaluation, planning, and decision-making.
- Coordinate communications related to library and Success Centre services across campuses and act as the primary operational liaison with Facilities, Campus Administration, IT Services, Campus Security, and other service units.
- Participate in College and portfolio committees and working groups, providing operational input and representing library operations perspectives.
- Oversee frontline financial procedures at library service desks, including cash handling, reconciliation, deposits, and account verification.
- Monitor operational expenditures and recommend allocations for on-call staffing within approved budgets.
- Maintain awareness of operational trends and best practices in library and academic support services in post-secondary education.
- Regular travel between campuses is required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline combined with 5 or more years of progressive management/supervisory experience in a unionized work environment is required.
- Demonstrated experience supervising unionized staff in a service-oriented, multi-site, or complex operational setting, including experience interpreting collective agreements.
- Experience working in libraries or a related field is strongly preferred, including knowledge of library systems and services, space planning, facilities management, and health and safety regulations.
- Experience supporting service transformations or operational change initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Library & Information Studies (MLIS) and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in an educational or public services setting.
- Undergraduate degree with 5 or more years of progressive management/supervisory experience in a unionized work environment.
- Equivalent combinations of education and work experience may be considered.

- Extensive knowledge of, and proven ability to, manage day-to-day library operations across distributed teams and multiple locations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Sound judgment in operational decision-making with the ability to elevate issues appropriately.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan strategically and execute effectively.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build relationships across physical locations.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise tact and discretion.

- Ability to solve problems independently and make decisions that support strategic priorities aligned with the College’s mission.
- Experience and success in data gathering, analysis, and report writing to support evidence-informed decision making.
- Ability to manage a high volume of work with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and exercise judgment and discretion as situations arise.
