Job Description
Director – Business Development
As the Director - Business Development, you will be responsible for setting and executing the department’s strategic direction. You will cultivate and manage client relationships, identify and evaluate potential business partners, and lead the negotiation of partnership agreements. You will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and drive initiatives that support sustainable business growth.
Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new business opportunities.
- Retain and expand existing company relationships and solicit new business from prospective customers and suppliers.
- Call on existing or prospective customers within the framework of the business development program.
- Establish relationships with potential customers and suppliers and discuss unmet needs, problems, or complaints, arranging meetings with appropriate representatives.
- Represent the company in identifying, evaluating, and negotiating new product lines, vendors, solutions, markets, acquisitions, partnerships, alliances, joint ventures, and start-ups.
- Oversee development and research activities to identify potential new markets and business opportunities, increase market share, and strengthen competitive position.
- Launch and implement sales initiatives or programs aimed at new, existing, or obsolete product sales.
- Represent the company at industry, civic, and community functions to enhance image and develop additional business.
- Select, manage, evaluate, and develop staff.
- Compile and analyze statistics pertinent to the business development program, report results to senior management, and adjust programs appropriately.
Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 10 years of experience and training directly related to the position; 10 years of financial analysis, sales and negotiation experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Strong business analysis and financial modeling skills.
- Knowledge of the industry, suppliers, customers, and competitors preferred.
- Knowledge of the company’s existing business lines, strengths and challenges preferred.
- Ability to spot new business opportunities and evaluate them quickly.
- Ability to initiate and develop relationships with key decision makers both inside and outside the company.
- Ability to analyze financial and operational data, statements, and projections.
- Ability to identify and cultivate external resources.
- Ability to accurately recognize when additional company resources are being requested.
- Ability to travel 50%–75% of the time.
Compensation
Annual salary range: $128,616 – $160,769. Compensation may include participation in bonus or sales incentive plans, and for certain sales roles a commission structure. Additional benefits may include paid time off, medical, dental, vision coverage, and retirement savings plans.
