EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - YOUTH WORKER
35 hours/week
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Post-secondary education in related field of study such as: social service worker, child and youth worker, sociology, psychology
- NVCI, CPR and First Aid, ASIST certification
- Experience working with at risk youth in schools and peer-based programs.
- Sound knowledge of the principles of restorative justice and peer conflict mediation with youth.
- Sound knowledge of evidence based interventions for youth in school.
- Sound knowledge of the roles and functions of schools, police, relevant community resources and legislation.
- Interviewing, counselling, case management, group facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
- Report writing, recording, data collection, statistical management, program implementation and evaluation skills.
- Volunteer management and supervision skills.
- Community relations, public education and collaborative skills
- Sensitivity to diversity and all cultures is essential
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Bilingualism (French/English)
- Valid G class drivers license and vehicle
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring of program.
- Coordinate and deliver all services under the program and perform all duties in accordance with the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northeastern Ontario's Policies and Procedures
- Collect statistical data, prepare and submit monthly reports on the program activities for Operations Director, Executive Director and the Board of Directors
- Provide data and assist with evaluation process
- Monitor and ensure that program targets and outcomes are met
- Participate in partner and stakeholder consultations
- Participate in program review meetings with the Coordinator and Executive Director
- Provide direct client services to youth referred to the program in various settings such as schools, community and agency.
- Deliver services including: intake, referrals, crisis intervention, one-one supportive counseling, group counseling, outreach, ongoing community support
- Recruit, train and sustain peer mediators
- Maintain accurate, up to date client files and case notes
- Supervise students/volunteers
- Deliver public education presentations
