About The Branch
The Wildland Fire Management (WFM) branch contributes to the protection of people, property and the development of sustainable, fire resilient Yukon communities and infrastructure. WFM directly maintains and oversees the safe training and operational practices, and values natural ecological processes to ensure operational efficiency within the territory.
About The Job
Reporting to the Manager of Operations – Incident Management, the Wildfire Risk Management Specialist is responsible for the design, development and implementation of community wildfire risk reduction plans.
This position is also responsible for producing Fire Behaviour Specialist products, and developing and implementing integrated wildland fire management programming for the Yukon.
Essential Qualifications

Post-secondary education in natural sciences or renewable resources management, or a related field.
Significant work experience working in wildland fire management
Advanced Wildland Fire Behaviour (S-490) national training course
Significant experience filling senior fire command and duty officer positions
Experience writing prescribed burn plans and conducting prescribed burns
Significant experience using project or risk management methodologies
Experience as an Ignition Specialist
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may be equally considered.

Experience in the incident command system and the operation of an emergency operations centre
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
Experience engaging with First Nations and communities on the topic of Emergency Management
Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrates sounds analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to research and analyze information

Conditions of Employment: Valid Class 5 driver's license.
Job Requirements: Willingness to work overtime on evenings and weekends as required, and to travel within the territory or nationally.
