TRP has a current vacancy for a Traction Power Supply Engineer.
The Traction Power Supply Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, engineering, and integration of traction power supply systems, including substations, power distribution, and related equipment, while contributing to Operations & Maintenance (O&M) readiness for these elements on the ECWE project. This role involves collaborating with the systems design production team to ensure technical requirements, performance specifications, and interface obligations are met within the overall wayside systems design. The position requires technical expertise in electrical engineering and experience working on multidisciplinary teams for rail or transit projects.
Job Description:
Traction Power Supply Design & Integration
- Contribute to the engineering and design of traction power supply systems, including substations, rectifiers, feeders, and grounding systems.
- Assist in producing and validating design deliverables, ensuring compliance with contractual, regulatory, and safety requirements.
- Support coordination with the System Integration and Interface team for interfaces between traction power systems, overhead catenary, rolling stock, and civil works.
- Incorporate systems requirements, TVRA recommendations, and operational considerations into traction power designs.
- Ensure traction power designs align with project standards, Metrolinx requirements, and applicable codes.
O&M Readiness
- Assist in developing and implementing O&M readiness strategies for traction power assets, focusing on maintainability, accessibility, and lifecycle management.
- Review design documentation to embed operational maintainability and reliability in traction power decisions.
- Collaborate with Metrolinx and O&M stakeholders to define maintenance philosophies, asset strategies, and spare parts planning for traction power systems.
- Support the creation of operation and maintenance manuals, training programs, and handover documentation.
Management & Coordination
- Work within a multidisciplinary team of systems engineers, contributing to timely deliverables aligned with project milestones.
- Overview WSP Traction Power supply Design Team production, and participate in design progress reviews, risk assessments, and change management for traction power elements.
- Provide technical input and collaborate with design partners and subcontractors on traction power matters.
- Attend internal and external meetings with Metrolinx, WSP, and stakeholders as needed for traction power discussions.
Interface and Assurance
- Help define and validate interface requirements between traction power systems and other project elements.
- Support system assurance activities, including RAMS, verification & validation, and safety certification for traction power.
- Maintain configuration control and requirements traceability for traction power throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate with Integration and Testing & Commissioning teams for traction power handover and testing readiness.
Reporting and Compliance
- Provide updates on traction power design status, risks, and issues to the System Wayside and O&M Manager.
- Ensure all traction power designs meet Metrolinx and applicable International and Ontario standards.
- Track actions from design reviews, RFIs, and technical clarifications related to traction power.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 510 years of relevant experience in traction power supply design, integration, and V&V for transit or rail projects.
- Experience in Design-Build or P3 environments preferred (Contractor side).
- Knowledge of CENELEC / ISO / IEC standards (EN 50126/50128/50129, ISO/IEC 15288).
- Familiarity with requirements management tools (e.g., IBM DOORS, Aconex).
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaborative skills.
- Ability to interpret operational requirements, technical documentation, and system interface information.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and high-quality delivery.
