The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) is one of six academic units in the Faculty of Engineering. Faculty and staff in the department support and foster the educational and research pursuits of undergraduate and graduate engineering students, while providing the best student experience. Responsibilities
The Technical/Research Support 1 will be responsible for carrying out research functions in collaboration with principal investigators, staff, and students. The role will maintain equipment, order supplies, set up and conduct tests and experiments in adherence with prescribed procedures. The role will maintain records, and analyze, summarize and compile data and results for dissemination.
Key Duties will include:
- Segmentation of 3D ear scans
- Biometric tagging of ear scans
- Assessing validity and variability of tags
- Automation of tagging process
- Report and paper writing
Qualifications
Education:
- Community College Diploma in a relevant area of focus with relevant experience required, or currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering or computer science program
Experience:
- 1 year of work experience supporting research in a related technical field
- Experience with machine learning toolkits (e.g., Tensorflow)
- Experience with computer-aided design
Skills, Abilities & Expertise:
- Demonstrated programming abilities with Python and MATLAB
- Knowledge of ear anatomy and hearing aids is an asset
- Familiarity with experimental design and analysis
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to collect and analyze data in an objective manner
- Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve issues
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
