Job Description

As the Electrical Engineering Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Engineering Services Group Lead by managing a team of Electrical Engineers and Designers. Your goal will be to provide leadership that will be instrumental in delivering innovative, fit-for-purpose project solutions. Your success in this position will enable our multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers to execute safely, efficiently, reliably, and productively on a variety of capital and expense projects for Canada's largest oil refinery here in Saint John, as well as Irving Oil's network of terminal facilities throughout Canada and the US eastern seaboard.

Your Responsibilities:  

  • Coach, mentor and provide leadership to electrical engineers, designers, and co-op students, fostering a culture of accountability and respect

  • Build and maintain relationships with leadership and stakeholders through collaboration and trust

  • Develop, execute, and report on resource plans to ensure effective cost, schedule, and quality performance

  • Drive adherence to established workflows, processes, procedures, and practices ensuring consistent work quality and legal compliance

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the discipline team and Engineering Services department identifying opportunities to enhance safety, efficiency, and innovation

  • Support strategic initiatives led by the Group Lead and ES leadership team contributing to the overall success and sustainability of our projects

  • Review, check, and approve (including professional sealing as required) of electrical engineering and design deliverables including effort hours estimates, MTOs, design drawings, engineering work orders, procurement packages, etc.

  • Perform engineering calculations

  • Assist with commissioning of engineering systems at industrial sites. Provide field support to construction contractors as required

  • Perform field verifications as required for design work

  • Engage with vendors, subject matter experts, and other engineering disciplines to effectively deliver safe, cost competitive solutions

  • Engage with 3rd party consultants, contractors, and suppliers and an Owner's Engineer capacity, which may include scoping, directing, reviewing and approving of outsource engineering work and deliverables, development of RFQs, review of bids, and responding to clarification requests and field changes

  • Strong attention to detail and excellent work ethic

  • Able to work in the field: this includes working in year-round weather conditions, physical demands, and being able to lift up to 20lbs, while wearing full PPE as required by safety standards

Your Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with P.Eng. designation

  • Minimum 10 years' experience as an electrical engineer in industrial environment or similar

  • Experience supporting a team through coaching, feedback, and day‑to‑day leadership
