Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Utilizes advanced level of clinical knowledge
involving both adult and neonatal clinical practices and technology/ equipment
- Advises and/or performs expert respiratory therapy assessment/management including various therapeutic treatments and diagnostic interventions
- Ensures standards of practice, clinical protocols and performance objectives are instituted to maximize patient outcomes
- Provides day-to-day support and assistance in problem solving to the RT staff and technicians regarding clinical and technical issues
- Provides guidance and leadership in revising, developing and promoting new therapeutic practices, in accordance with current medical literature and in consultation with both internal and external peers/resources
- Organizes and participates in the hiring, orientation and training of staff and RT students in clinical practice areas
- Develops, coordinates, actively participates in and monitors advanced skill certifications and performance management initiatives of staff, in accordance with hospital and professional college quality assurance directives
- Participates in program and hospital wide committees, e.g., RT Council, Patient Safety, etc.
- Develops and revises policies and procedures to reflect current and safe practices in respiratory care
- Assists in coordination of RT student scheduling, supervision, education and evaluation in the absence of the Clinical Educator
- Provides expert technical knowledge of respiratory equipment and service issues
- Ensures sufficient, appropriate supply and use of new and existing respiratory related therapeutic and technical equipment required for patient care, are always available
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized & accredited Respiratory Therapy Program;
- Current registration with CRTO
- CPR certification required;
- Minimum three (3) years Respiratory Therapy experience
- Experience with quality improvement, teaching and research required;
- Proficiency and expertise in the management of critically ill patients
- Knowledge in the creation and use of spreadsheets, database, word and excel documents required;
- Knowledge of legislation which may affect operations required;
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with and ability to inspire team work required;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills required;
- Excellent leadership and multitasking skills
- Excellent problem solving and decision making skills required;
- Ability to prioritize and delegate operational workload required;
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions required;
- Ability to handle stress and conflict management in a professional and effective manner;
- Ability to be a clinical resource for RTs, Physicians, Nurses and Health disciplines and all clinical students as required.
