Job Description
As the Refinery Café Kitchen Supervisor, you will lead a collaborative open‑kitchen environment where daily interaction with customers is encouraged. Your goal will be to oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the Café, contribute to menu development, maintain high standards of cleanliness, and ensure all requirements for a successful café are met. Your Responsibilities
Align daily operations with the Irving Oil brand and Corporate Café vision
Supervise full-service café operations, including limited catering, regulatory compliance, and daily menu offerings
Lead and coordinate the café team (Front of House, Stewards, Line Cooks) to ensure efficient and effective workflows
Train, motivate, and support staff while fostering a positive, customer-focused environment
Manage inventory, cost of goods, requisitioning, and stock rotation to reduce waste
Partner with the Café Manager to plan and develop menus for daily service and special events
Address escalated customer concerns and drive continuous service improvements
Maintain accurate records, accounts, and monthly food inventory processes
Support kitchen and front-of-house closing procedures using established checklists
Your Skills
Demonstrate strong leadership with the ability to develop, motivate, and guide a cohesive, experienced team
Strong customer‑service mindset with the ability to work productively in a close, collaborative team environment
Back‑office and inventory‑control experience with solid time‑management skills and the ability to prioritize quickly
Thrives in a fast‑paced setting with the ability to stand for long periods and lift to 20 lbs.
Flexible and reliable, including availability for early‑morning shifts
Adaptable to operational needs with the ability to support both the Refinery Café and, occasionally, the Home Office café
Your Experience
Post‑secondary education in cook, culinary, or hospitality or tourism, supported by relevant certifications such as Red Seal, Sous de Cuisine (CFCC), or Cook's Trade Certification; Food Safety certification required
At least 5 years of commercial food‑preparation experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role
Proven experience as a sous‑chef, specialist chef, or chef, with the ability to manage and perform in a fast‑paced restaurant or bistro environment
