POSITION SUMMARY:
The Radio Technician/Installer is responsible for programming, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing communications equipment both at the repair center and on-site. This role supports the deployment and maintenance of radio systems across the project, ensuring equipment is installed and functioning according to project specifications and safety standards
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Testing by means of watt meter, multimeter, antenna diagnostics, DTF, basic service monitor use, modulation, channel bandwidths and signal levels
Install wireless communications equipment in stationary and mobile applications including light, medium & heavy-duty vehicles and equipment
- Basic RF
- Reading and understanding of engineering drawings/documents
- Adherence to all Safety policies and procedures
- Demonstrate professionalism & acts as ambassador of Tridon
- Install, maintain, and repair LTE Data radio wired/wireless LAN and WAN data networks
- Program radio equipment
- Install omni directional antennas
- Complete accurate Job Hazard Assessments (JHA’s) and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA)
- Complete required inspection sheets (Vehicle)
- Assist, guide, and mentor employees and/or trainees
- Participate in travel, overtime, and on-call duties as required
- Site surveys
- Antenna diagnostics
- Advanced radio programming
- RF cable testing, using an Anritsu S331E analyzer
- Network data cable testing using Fluke DSX5000
- Ability to perform electrical AC/DC voltage checks and continuity checks.
- Knowledge of M12 connectors, D coded and X coded
- IP Basics
- Loss calculations
- Cable management
- Advanced diagnostics
- Provide own basic tools
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A 2-year diploma in Electronics or Communications Engineering Technology, or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or a related field
- 3+ years of relevant work and field experience
- Basic diagnostic and radio programming
- Ability to use a multimeter to test various radio functionality parameters as well as a spectrum analyzer
- Basic point to point and point to multipoint microwave deployment and setup experience
- Experience installing portable audio or radio equipment into all forms of light duty and heavy-duty vehicles
- Electrical Wiring codes and best practices
- Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment and design/fabrication techniques
- Experience working with Wireless networking switches and routers
- Hands-on Tools & Test Equipment: Knowledge of hand and power tools, test equipment, and design/fabrication techniques.
Asset
- Experience working with Motorola and Kenwood portable radio equipment
- Experience with large volume radio systems directly on client site
- Prior experience working with Motorola, Kenwood, Icom or Harris Radios an asset
- Trailer towing and heaving construction or mine driving experience an asset
- Prior work experience in heavy industry, oil and gas, and or mining sector
Other Requirements
- Full, valid, and current driver’s license
- Clean 5-year driver’s abstract
- Clear Criminal Background Check
- Successful completion of a Pre-Access Drug & Alcohol test, with ongoing random testing as required by clients
