We are currently looking to fill the position of
Protective Equipment Tester Helper.
Key Elements Of This Role Include

  • Being responsible for the safe and efficient performance of general utility duties as necessary to support the safe and efficient operation of the Test Center.
  • Responsible for shipping, receiving, organizing PETC warehouse inventory and cleaning Protective and other related equipment.
  • Maintaining inventory stock levels and records, use various computer applications (Direct Line, Excel, SharePoint and PETC Power apps billing), assist Protective Equipment Testers and keep work areas organized and clean.
  • General shop cleaning and maintenance activities, cleaning and handling of heavy rubber protective parts such as blankets and hoses, cleaning and drying of rubber gloves, packing and shipping of tested materials, receiving and unpacking of untested stock, etc.
  • Cleaning of PETC equipment, and assistance with preventative maintenance duties, repair and corrective maintenance duties.
  • Will be required to take training courses including in-house safety, environmental, vehicle operation and training related to your position.
  • Willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • Responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • Compliance with environmental regulations as they relate to the PETC.

  • Grade XII education or equivalent, detailed oriented with reading and writing skills necessary to safely and effectively perform the duties of the position.
  • You possess strong computer skills and demonstrate your commitment to your personal and Professional development.
  • You must be willing to develop a working proficiency with the applicable PETC Standards and Technical Procedures and successfully complete an acceptable evaluation.
  • You should be comfortable with all applicable software applications for inventory management and billing applications. Forklift experience and knowledge of Protective equipment and testing methods would also be an asset.
  • You must be able to perform heavy labor duties and be familiar with and capable of using common hand and power tools in the course of the day-to-day work. Being self-motivated and having the ability to get along well with others is essential.
  • You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Must be able to lift a range of 17-66 lbs. from waist to overhead on a minimal to frequent basis
  • Able to carry 25-66 lbs. with one or two hands
  • Use a range of grip strength from simple to firm grasp with turning motions
  • Use upper and whole-body strength to push and pull 20-50 lbs.
  • Perform static reaching from shoulder to overhead occasionally and frequently at waist and lateral level
  • Perform frequent walking
  • Occasionally perform standing, bending, stooping, and forward flexional movements, squatting, twisting while balancing with neck flexion, extension and rotation movements
  • Perform sitting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling on a minimal basis
  • Able to discriminate colours through vision and adjust to warm temperatures and confined spaces
