Blachford Lodge by Arctic Kingdom is a premier fly-in wilderness lodge in the Northwest Territories, offering immersive year-round northern experiences in one of Canada's most extraordinary landscapes.
Operating in a remote and environmentally sensitive setting requires disciplined infrastructure management, strong preventative maintenance systems, and a high standard of safety and regulatory compliance.

Position Summary
The Property & Systems Lead is responsible for the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of all lodge infrastructure systems and property-related functions.
This includes power generation, fuel systems, heating systems, water and wastewater systems, mechanical infrastructure, and preventative maintenance programs.
This role supervises the maintenance team and coordinates contractors as required. The primary focus is infrastructure stability and systems integrity. This position is not responsible for guest programming and must remain available to oversee and respond to infrastructure needs at all times.
This is a year-round lodge-based role with rotational scheduling to support operational continuity and employee sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure & Utilities Management
- Oversee diesel generators, boilers, Toyo stoves, pellet systems, and heating systems
- Monitor diesel, propane, pellet, and fuel systems
- Operate and monitor utilidor systems, water supply, filtration, and wastewater systems
- Maintain infrastructure logs and fuel tracking records
- Escalate infrastructure risks or fuel concerns immediately
Preventative Maintenance & Repairs
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance schedules
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems
- Coordinate complex repairs with contractors
- Ensure safe storage and operation of tools and equipment
Property & Grounds Oversight
- Maintain buildings, mechanical spaces, and infrastructure areas
- Oversee snow removal and site safety measures
- Support airstrip and helipad condition maintenance
- Maintain safe access routes and grounds
Maintenance Team Leadership
- Supervise maintenance staff
- Schedule and direct daily maintenance tasks
- Promote safe work practices
- Provide training and technical mentorship
- Establish coverage plans for uninterrupted infrastructure oversight
Documentation & Systems Continuity
- Develop written SOPs for infrastructure systems
- Document emergency response procedures
- Maintain compliance documentation
- Reduce single-point-of-failure risk through knowledge transfer
Contractor & Supply Coordination
- Coordinate contractor access and work
- Monitor maintenance inventory
- Support logistics planning related to fuel and infrastructure materials
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards
- Support land and water permit compliance
- Maintain documentation for audit readiness
Qualifications
Knowledge
- Strong understanding of diesel generators, boiler systems, heating systems, and fuel management
- Familiarity with remote water and wastewater systems
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
- Understanding of safety and regulatory compliance requirements
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving ability
- Ability to supervise and mentor maintenance staff
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment
Experience
- Certified trade, Red Seal or equivalent preferred
- Experience in remote or northern environments
- Experience managing mechanical infrastructure systems
- Supervisory experience preferred
Working Conditions
This is a year-round lodge-based role in a remote fly-in environment.
The position requires lifting, operating machinery, navigating uneven terrain, and extended time outdoors and in mechanical spaces. Exposure to extreme weather conditions and reliance on aviation logistics are inherent to the role.
The successful candidate must demonstrate resilience, strong judgment, and an unwavering commitment to safety and operational discipline.
