Job Title: Plant Layout Design EngineerJob Description
We are seeking a skilled Plant Layout Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in optimizing plant layouts and production lines within a leading automotive manufacturing facility. Utilizing your advanced knowledge of AutoCAD and understanding of civil, structural, architectural, and electrical CAD detailing, you will contribute to the efficiency and safety of our production environment.
Responsibilities- Utilize Autodesk AutoCAD 2024 software in both model and paper space modes to produce construction installation and station rearrangement layouts.
- Create section and elevation drawings that depict the layout of new equipment.
- Translate field sketches, record drawings, as-built drawings, photographs, and verbal and written information into 2-D AutoCAD drawings.
- Conduct field checks of existing plant layouts and update cycle line layouts accordingly.
- Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches.
- Organize and run meetings, updating material part numbers during cycle line layout meetings.
- Develop station rearrangement layouts and support equipment and tooling installation.
- Generate drawings for bid packages or plant skilled trades.
- Coordinate project commissioning activities, committing to working up to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, with occasional pre-approved overtime.
- Review plant layouts per guidelines and recommend changes to support insourcing actions, including laying out warehouses and sequencing areas.
- Generate small lot route layouts to support new model launch plans.
- Review and explain layout proposals with safety, production, and maintenance teams to obtain approval and sign-off.
- Provide budgetary cost estimates and obtain detailed estimates for proposals using the client's online portal.
- Field check and provide current state information regarding material flow and production processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, particularly in plant layout design and optimization.
- Experience in automotive production settings, with full production setting exposure.
- Process flow optimization skills.
- A minimum of five years of experience as a Layout Design/Project Engineer in the automotive industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of general layout rules for automotive manufacturing environments.
- Ability to define and optimize layouts to improve safety, quality, and flow.
- Experience interacting with contractors and sub-vendors on-site.
- Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
- Experience working with external teams designing production lines to ensure alignment with factory plans.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to keep stakeholders informed of project timelines and changes.
The position requires full-time on-site work at the assembly plant in Oakville, with limited remote work opportunities. The role promises a long-term engagement in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, supporting one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Oakville, ON.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
