NON-UNIONIZED POSITION
Permanent Full-Time – 40 Hours per Week
Description Of Work
The Planning and Development Manager reports to the Director of Planning and Development. The position is responsible for managing the day to day activities of the Department and assisting the Director in researching, preparing and recommending policies to guide and control the long-term development of the Town.
Qualifications And Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in business administration, commerce, or a related degree is required. Alternate degrees will also be considered if relevant experience is demonstrated.
- Candidate or full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners would be considered an asset.
- Must have at least five (5) years of progressively advancing management experience preferably in a municipal or union environment.
- Proven experience in developing, coordinating, designing and delivering a variety of policies, procedures and programs.
- Significant experience providing strategic advice and in problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Considerable knowledge of building and development control, permitting and management, urban and rural planning, planning legislation, planning operations and Municipal Plan and Development Regulations preparation would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada is required.
- Knowledge of research and policy development and application review is required.
- Knowledge of GIS would be an asset.
- Experience working with consultants is desirable.
- Supervisory experience is required.
Skills
- Must be effective communicator who can establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town staff, Council, government agencies, developers and the public.
- Ability to work independently and to exercise professional judgement under tight deadlines is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as the ability to support and coach staff.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and address matters with discretion and confidentiality are required.
