Position Overview

Union House is looking for someone who is enthusiastic and diligent to add to our team Union House is a small private operation currently seeking part-time and casual staff. The ideal candidate meets every requirement, already has completed certifications and paperwork, and has at least one year experience working in a similar location, this includes work and volunteer experiences. Union House is unique in the atmosphere we create in the home, it is an exciting and interesting place to work and candidates should be looking to learn and adapt everyday. Our location is meant to feel like home to each resident and a team member will understand the necessities of all residents in a case-by-case scenario.

Responsibilities

  • Complete tasks and duties with utmost attention while consistently maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in the work place.
  • Assist residents and strive towards independence when applicable regarding personal hygiene as required, including but not limited to; bathing, grooming, and dressing.
  • Prepare meals/snacks, as well as assisting with feeding where applicable. This includes following the meal plan for all residents, as well as one resident who is a diabetic.
  • Administer medications properly and sign medication records.
  • Complete all daily chores and other cleaning tasks as listed on the schedule, including laundry, dishes, vacuuming, mopping etc.
  • Keep detailed records in the shift book as well as the medication records. Staff are also responsible for answering the telephone and taking messages for residents/operator.
  • Participate in group activities and or outings accompanying the residents with other staff or independently when required.
  • Ability to deal with high stress situations and manage time and tasks effectively on a daily basis.
  • This position can be very mentally and physically demanding at times, and we require staff who are adaptable to these unique situations. Some residents present challenging behaviours due to their mental cognition and any staff member of Union House will accept them as they are and do their best to understand.

Must be comfortable/adaptable to the following:

  • Managing many aspects of physical/mental care which can be both mentally and physically taxing for the staff themselves at any given time.
  • Bodily fluids (blood, bile, faeces, urine, etc.) As our residents require a high level of care, you may encounter any and all of these within an average day.
  • Adaptability and flexibility with shifts, responsibilities, and designated tasks as our daily routine relies solely upon the needs of our residents each day.

Qualifications

  • Valid and current First-Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid Criminal Record Check as well as Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Certification as one of following (or similar experience/certifications) Human Service Counsellor, Personal Support Worker, Home Health Care Aide, (other certifications and experience may be applicable. Please do not hesitate to reach out to see if you qualify.
  • Experience in a special care home/group home/assisted living atmosphere for at least six-months, is required.
  • MUST have previous professional experience working with cognitive delays and or disabilities.

  • CPR/First Aid certification, other qualifying certifications/courses/certification should also be included in the application.
  • After your application has been reviewed, if management decides to reach out we will do so via email as supplied by you in your resume.
  • Interview scheduled to be completed at Union House led by the owner and operations manager including an introduction to the residents.
  • After your interview, if both yourself and management wish to continue with the process we will schedule a trial shift, which management will be present for the entirety of.
  • Lastly, if all above steps go well and management wishes to move forward you will be required to supply all documents and certifications listed above in qualifications. This process includes getting a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Job Types: Part-time, casual. Including nights/evenings/days/weekends. Shifts range anywhere from 4 hours to 12 hours, depending on your qualifications, comfort level, and interest in the position.
