Job Description

This is a full-time position.Total compensation for this position is based on the Havergal Faculty Grid, with final placement determined by recognized teaching years, degrees, and Additional Qualifications (AQs). While the current faculty grid ranges from $72,185 – $103,105 for early-career faculty and $103,457 – $135,699 for those with six or more years of experience, these levels are subject to increase for the 2026–2027 academic year.

The Position:
As Head of Library Information Centre, you will work collaboratively with the Upper School Department Heads and Administration to set and shape the department's direction, philosophy, and goals, aligned with the school's mission, vision, values, and strategic plan. You are creative, innovative, open to others' ideas, and you inspire with vision. You are knowledgeable and have proven leadership skills in long-term planning, research methods, inquiry and interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary methodology. You are responsible for supervising the library staff, including the Junior School Librarian; budgeting for and managing resources; and developing and implementing long-range plans for the resource centre and its programming.
As an experienced librarian, you will be well-positioned to work with faculty and other strategic stakeholders to support the development of new programming; to evolve your own practice and to support the learning of others through creative collaboration. You will demonstrate flexibility, enthusiasm and a willingness to work in a rapidly changing environment. You are open to exploring best practices and drawing on the Havergal context to take an innovative, creative approach to evolving the library program and services.
Specific Accountabilities:
Develop and maintain an up-to-date, culturally diverse collection of print and digital resources appropriate to the curriculum, the instructional strategies used and the interests of the students.
Collaborate with faculty to ensure that the research and inquiry curricula includes the full range of literacy skills (information, media, visual, and digital literacy) across all content areas.
Collaborate with faculty to design and implement engaging inquiry learning assessments that integrate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate online tools into a blended learning environment.
Promote reading for understanding and enjoyment.
Manage duties of library staff JK-12.
Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Relevant university qualifications preferably at the graduate level (Master of Library and Information Studies and/or Bachelor of Education plus Librarianship Part 3 (AQ).
Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in 'Good Standing'.
A minimum of 5 years exemplary teaching experience in an academic, secondary school (Independent school experience is an asset).
Leadership experience in an educational setting.
Knowledge of current educational practices.
Knowledge of the current research on girls and learning.
Knowledge of research and inquiry processes and methodologies.
Ability to collaborate with faculty to effectively plan and implement interdisciplinary units that support student learning, engagement and success.
Knowledge of instructional technology and ability to explore, test and iterate features of the Learning Management System.
