Greenhouse & Garden Centre Staff reports to the Retail Manager and Assistant Retail Manager.

Brief description

Greenhouse & Garden Centre Staff possesses a knowledge of agriculture or horticulture or is an avid gardener. They are resourceful with a willingness to learn and find the answers to questions from customers and other associates regarding plants, plant care, pests, growing conditions (etc) for a wide variety of landscape plants. When the Greenhouse & Garden Centre Staff isn't selling they are helping Production, covering cash, assisting with merchandising the store, and other tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Resourceful with a willingness to learn and find the answers to customer questions
• Assisting customers and other associates with questions regarding plants, plant care, pests, growing conditions (etc) for a wide variety of landscape plants
• Cash duties as needed
• Comfortable using a computer, POS system and mobile device
• Price, arrange, display and stock all garden centre plants and products
• Watering, cleaning, condensing, organizing, and maintaining plants
• Assist customers loading purchases into their vehicles
• Answering phones and text messages in a professional manor
• Has a willingness to learn new skills
• Is excited to work in a fast paced, always changing industry
• Working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ensuring proper PPE is in use whenever necessary
• Moving plant material from production to retail areas (and vice versa)
• Assisting the production team with tasks (pruning, fertilizing, watering, moving etc)
• Assisting the maintenance team with tasks that include general upkeep of the structures, lawn and garden maintenance
• Hosting workshops and events: Organize and present workshops and events on site
• Maintaining the greenhouse and nursery, ensuring it is clean, neat, tidy, and well organized.
• Labeling and arranging trays and pots methodically and systematically.
• Assembling and attaching plant labels.
• Pack and prepare orders for clients and customer pick-up, delivery.
• Ensure all cleanout tasks and startup tasks are completed including ensuring the greenhouse is cleaned and ready for planting.
• Ensuring production lines are organized, prepared, cleaned, and maintained
• Loading and unloading materials from personal and commercial vehicles

• Ability to lift 25-50lbs (plants, plant material, bags of soil etc)
• Adaptable and flexible with changing weather and daily schedules, accepting that some days may be longer than others and evenings and weekend work is required

• Cash counting
• Comfortable using a computer and/or mobile device
• Maintaining a clean and safe working environment for customers and staff

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Seasonal

Contract length: 6 months

Pay: $16.75-$17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 40 per week
