Flora House and Ice Cream shop Staff reports to the Retail Manager and Assistant Retail Manager.
Brief description
Flora House and Ice Cream shop Staff possesses a knowledge of houseplants and food safety. They are resourceful with a willingness to learn and find the answers to questions from customers and other associates regarding plants, plant care, pests, growing conditions (etc) for a wide variety of houseplants. When the Flora House and Ice Cream shop Staff isn't selling they are helping covering cash, assisting with merchandising the store, and other tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
- Resourceful with a willingness to learn and find the answers to customer questions
- Assisting customers and other associates with questions regarding plants, plant care, pests, growing conditions (etc) for a wide variety of houseplants
- Cash duties
- Comfortable using a computer, POS system and mobile device
- Price, arrange, display and stock all plants and products
- Watering, cleaning, condensing, organizing, and maintaining plants
- Assist customers loading purchases into their vehicles
- Answering phones and text messages in a professional manor
- Has a willingness to learn new skills
- Is excited to work in a fast paced, always changing industry
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ensuring proper PPE is in use whenever necessary
- Hosting workshops and events: Organize and present workshops and events on site
- Willing to be certified in Food Safety
- Maintaining the greenhouse and nursery, ensuring it is clean, neat, tidy, and well organized.
- Labeling and arranging trays and pots methodically and systematically.
- Assembling and attaching plant labels.
- Pack and prepare orders for clients and customer pick-up, delivery.
- Ensure all cleanout tasks and startup tasks are completed including ensuring the shop is cleaned and ready for planting.
- Loading and unloading materials from personal and commercial vehicles
Requirements and skills
- Fast-paced environment

- Working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Bending, lifting and crouching
- Ability to lift 25-50lbs (plants, plant material, bags of soil etc)
- Adaptable and flexible with changing weather and daily schedules, accepting that some days may be longer than others and evenings and weekend work is required
- Plant and plant product knowledge
- Kind, friendly and approachable demeanor
- Cash counting
- Comfortable using a computer and/or mobile device
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment for customers and staff
- Food Safety is certification an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 5-7 months
Pay: $16.50-$17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 40 per week
