ABOUT THE POSITION

The Financial Analyst is one of three accounting staff members reporting to the Finance Manager. This role provides timely and accurate financial information for the management team, enabling effective and proactive decision-making across the organization.

The position requires strong analytical skills, expertise in NetSuite and Excel, and the ability to navigate complex reporting requirements for multiple programs. The ideal candidate will be comfortable collaborating with program managers, external auditors, and the Finance Manager.



AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Prepare and analyze monthly program financial reports, comparing budget vs. actual results and identifying variances.
  • Collaborate with program managers to provide financial insights and recommendations for effective budget utilization.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Conduct balance sheet account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
  • Support grant management by tracking funding, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring compliance with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Prepare and issue revenue entries and invoices for funding partners and program activities and preparing AR summaries.
  • Allocate salaries/payroll entries and overhead costs across programs to accurately reflect program expenses.
  • Manage statutory and tax-related reporting, including preparing and issuing tax receipts for donors/parents and funding partners, submitting HST/GST refund applications, and preparing and filing the T3010 annual charity tax return accurately and on time.
  • Assist in the preparation of funding submissions and proposals.
  • Work with the Finance Manager on preparing the annual budget and program forecasts.
  • Liaise with auditors during annual and special audits, preparing schedules and supporting documentation as required.
  • Other tasks related to Finance as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS

  • University graduate with a focus in Finance, Accounting, or Commerce.
  • CPA designation or actively pursuing an accounting designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant finance experience.
  • Advanced understanding and practical knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data analysis, etc.) and experience with Microsoft Word and ERP or NetSuite accounting systems.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, with a solid grasp of mathematical concepts.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with staff and members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capable of developing work plans and managing projects efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and set work priorities in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate financial recommendations to program and administrative staff for continuous business process improvements.
