Engineering Services Student
Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Water Resources Engineer, or designate, support the Engineering Services team on various projects.
Responsibilities:
- Assist staff with ongoing projects, conduct research, and gather relevant information to support project objectives
- Collect and analyze data to provide insights and recommendations
- Prepare reports and documentation summarizing project findings and outcomes
- Communicate effectively with team members, providing updates on progress and challenges
- Collaborate with senior engineers to refine designs and incorporate feedback
- Review site plan and subdivision applications
- Assist with field inspections of Site Alteration Permit locations and surveying
- Assist staff with updating the infrastructure database related to water resources, and grading and drainage complaints database
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
- Preference will be given to students who are currently enrolled in a recognized University/College program of study in Civil Engineering
- Established skills and experience using PC equipment and related software applications, (i.e. MS Office Suite)
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively both orally and in writing with the general public, contractors, agencies and staff
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills
- Physically fit with the ability to climb and walk over rough ground. Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Possess and maintain an Ontario Driver's Licence, minimum Class "G2", in good standing, and be able to supply own vehicle
As a condition of employment, the City of Oshawa will require successful candidates to undergo a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check.
To be eligible for a student position with the City of Oshawa you must be currently enrolled in full-time studies at community college or university and returning to full-time studies at the conclusion of the work term. Documentation from the school must be provided indicating your intention to return to school at the end of the work term. If this documentation is not received, you will be disqualified from the student employment program and will not be considered for future student employment opportunities. Students must commit to a full term of employment from May 4, 2026 up to and including September 4, 2026.
Student performance will be evaluated during the work term. Previous applicants or incumbents are not guaranteed an interview or employment from year to year. Certain positions may require a satisfactory verification of a candidate's record of criminal offences as a condition of employment.
