Electrical Panel Estimator

About the Role
We are looking for a Panel Build Estimator to support our growing automation and controls business. This role is focused on estimating electrical control panel builds—including material, labor, and lead times—based on drawings, BOMs, specifications, and customer RFQs.
You will work closely with automation engineers, panel shop personnel, purchasing, and sales to deliver accurate, competitive, and timely panel build quotes.
Key Responsibilities
- Review RFQs, drawings, BOMs, and specifications to prepare detailed panel build estimates
- Develop accurate material, labor, and assembly cost estimates for control panels
- Interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
- Estimate build hours based on component count, terminations, enclosure size, and complexity
- Work with suppliers to obtain pricing and lead times for enclosures, components, and hardware
- Identify risks, assumptions, exclusions, and opportunities in quotes
- Support standardization of estimating tools, templates, and parts databases
- Collaborate with engineering and panel shop teams to validate estimates and improve accuracy
- Assist with quote revisions, value engineering, and customer clarifications as needed
Required Qualifications
- Experience estimating electrical control panels or industrial electrical assemblies
- Strong understanding of:
- Industrial control components (PLCs, HMIs, power supplies, relays, VFDs, terminal blocks, etc.)
- Panel wiring, terminations, and assembly practices
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and BOMs
- Familiarity with CSA / UL panel requirements
- Proficiency with Excel or similar tools for cost breakdowns
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Clear communication skills for working with internal teams and customers
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in automation, controls, or industrial electrical systems
- Experience in a panel shop, systems integrator, or OEM
- Experience building or maintaining estimating databases or quote templates
- Electrical technologist, electrician, or engineering background is an asset
