Department Head, Continuing Education


Continuing Studies, Ayamdigut (Whitehorse) Campus, Full‑Time Permanent position. Salary: $55.62 to $66.19 hourly (based on 75 hours bi‑weekly). Employment Opportunity No.: 26.18. Closing date: March 11th 2026.


We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Department Head, Continuing Education to lead strategic growth, program excellence, and community impact. Reporting to the Executive Director, Continuing Studies, the Department Head provides strategic vision, leadership, and operational oversight for Continuing Education programming, including Business, Social Justice, Professional training, First Aid and Safety Training, Community interest courses and STEM Youth Programming. The role drives strategic planning, program innovation, partnership development, and the advancement of workforce development, vocational and professional education, micro‑credentialing, and customized contract training within the Continuing Studies Division.


The Department Head leads coordinated instructional services for businesses and learners, fostering a culture of innovation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include research and market analysis to inform program development, building partnerships with First Nations, government and industry, leading proposal development and contract training initiatives, budget oversight and ensuring effective delivery across in‑person, online and hybrid formats.


Essential Skills & Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education, Adult Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Management experience, including recruitment and performance management in a unionized environment.

  • Experience conducting qualitative research (training needs analysis, environmental scans, market research).

  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing strategic partnerships.

  • Knowledge of workforce development, employment standards, and workplace health and safety.

  • Knowledge of adult education principles, instructional technologies, curriculum development and evaluation practices.

  • Experience leading non‑academic post‑secondary projects and managing budgets.

  • Knowledge of distance/online education, micro‑credentialing frameworks, and data management systems.

  • Understanding of economic trends and workforce development needs.


Desirable Assets & Personal Suitability



  • Knowledge of Yukon First Nations and experience integrating Indigenous perspectives into curriculum.

  • Extensive knowledge of higher education and vocational/professional development practices.

  • Experience developing customised and contract training programs, including proposal writing and RFP responses.

  • Experience conducting industry and professional research to identify emerging trends.

  • Visionary leadership with strong strategic thinking and consensus‑building skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in multicultural environments.

  • Ability to inspire and mentor instructors and positively represent the University and its partners.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, service excellence and collaborative leadership.
