Robert Half is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing construction company based in Burnaby for a highly skilled Controller. This leadership role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and is ready to oversee the full financial operations of the organization.The Role
Reporting to the executive team, the Controller will be responsible for managing the company's accounting function, financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls, while supporting operational decision-making across multiple construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
Lead month-end and year-end close processes
Prepare and present financial statements and management reports
Manage project accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
Ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
Strengthen internal controls and financial processes
Liaise with external auditors, banks, and tax advisors
Provide financial insights to support strategic growth initiatives
Supervise and mentor accounting staff
Qualifications
CPA designation (required or strongly preferred)
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction
Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting
Experience with construction ERP systems
Advanced Excel skills
Proven leadership and team management experience
Strong communication skills and ability to partner with operations
