Behaviour Therapist- Urgent Response Services
LOCATION: Etobicoke, ON; North York, ON
POSITION TYPE: Fixed Term Full-time (12-month contract; 37.5 hours/week)Â

SALARY RANGE: $64,521 - $71,419

Lumenus Community Services is looking to hire a Behaviour Therapist as part of its community-based Urgent Response Service team. This team will support children and youth with autism and their families with an identified urgent need to prevent further escalation of risk or harm to a child or youth, other people or property based on the identification of key high-risk factors.
As part of the Lumenus Autism team, the Behaviour Therapist works directly with children and youth with autism and their families in the direct implementation of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. The Behaviour Therapist will support children and youth with autism and their families with an identified urgent need to prevent further escalation of risk or harm to a child or youth, other people or property based on the identification of key high-risk factors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and organize the teaching environment and materials
- Review available information pertaining to service users on caseload on a regular basis
- Participate in intake and assessment activities as appropriate
- Implement the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis in one-to-one services across the home and community environments
- Follow prescribed skill acquisition programs and behaviour reduction plans as written and seeks consultation from clinical supervisor/ BCBA as needed
- Assess and Monitor individual child /youth skills, abilities, interests, strengths and needs
- Collect, record summarize and evaluate data on child/youth progress towards skill acquisition programs and behaviour reduction plans
- Complete recording and documentation according to organization and program standards
- Prepare written documentation regarding child/youth plans and progress as required
- Facilitate parent education and coaching as it relates to individual child/youth treatment program. Programs may be delivered virtually, on site, in home and community as required.
- Collaborates with other team members in the development of applied behavioural analysis programs and procedures
- Consults with other team members and professionals as required
- Maintain regular communications with parents and family members as required
- Participates in scheduled team meetings and conferences as required
- Presents information (both written and oral) sensitively and effectively
- Collaborates with Supervisors regarding programming and client’s progress
- Work within a multidisciplinary team
- Supervise/mentor students and volunteers
- Adhere to agency standards of professional conduct and agency regulations
- Participate and complete all mandatory trainings- CPR/First Aid, SMG Crisis Prevention and Client Information Systems (CIS)
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in ABA, Psychology, or Education
- Relevant experience should include 2+ years’ experience working with children /youth diagnosed with Autism; Autism Spectrum Disorder with complex needs (ASD)
- Demonstrated experience applying the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis in various settings (group, individualized)
- Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills (both written and verbal)
- Clinical judgmentÂ
- Problem solving skills
- Program planning and implementation
- Accurate data collection and graphing
- Organization and time management
- Behaviour management of children and/or youth
- Knowledge of typical and atypical child and adolescent development
- Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and in the home or community as applicable
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of developmental milestones in early childhoodÂ
- Understanding of child welfare issues and policies
- Sensitivity to multi-cultural issues
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
- Knowledge of Boardmaker and other technology solutions for children and youth is an asset and highly preferred
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Â
- Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Access to reliable transportation to travel to various work sites within the GTA
