First Tee - Prairies is a youth development program offered by Golf Canada that introduces the game of golf and its inherent values to young people. Through after‑school and in‑school programs, we help shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by reinforcing values like integrity, respect and perseverance through the game of golf.


Our mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, promote life‑enhancing values and healthy choices through the game of golf.

Role Description


The Assistant Golf Coach will serve in a volunteer capacity, working with the lead coach at a program location (golf course) to assist with the delivery of First Tee Programming. They will work to ensure that locations, participants, and participant parents/guardians have all the tools they need to grow and flourish.


Responsibilities



  • Assist in the delivery of First Tee at the Program Location (golf facility).

  • Assist with the set‑up and clean‑up of equipment.

  • Advocate and promote the benefits of First Tee to participants and parents.

  • Empower kids and teens to engage in volunteer and fundraising activities.

  • Provide overall guidance and mentorship to participants.


Skills Required



  • Must be friendly and approachable.

  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences and the impact of previous experiences on children.

  • Experience working with children is an asset, but not required.

  • Must complete required First Tee Assistant Coach Training.

  • Must complete a satisfactory vulnerable sector check.

Age and Time Commitment


Age: 18‑30, 31‑54, 55+.


Time Commitment: Evening, Weekend, Flexible Hours. Program sessions are held in evenings and weekends throughout the golf season (May‑September) – specific dates TBD. A typical shift would be two 1‑hour sessions delivered in succession to different age groups. There will be opportunity to attend and assist with special events such as the Aces for First Tee tournament, Try‑Golf Days, and Community Celebration Events.

Opportunity requires a criminal record check and a child abuse registry check. Cost will be reimbursed.


Eligibility



  • Fulfilling volunteer hours for school credit.

  • Uses a mobility device.

  • French speaking / Bilingual (French and English).

  • Evaluation.

  • Supervision.

  • Training / Orientation.
