Accounting Manager

Our REIT client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager of their Commercial Division to join their team in Calgary. This position is responsible for delivering accurate financial reporting and insightful analysis for a diverse portfolio of commercial and hotel properties across Canada. The role includes overseeing the property accounting team and working closely with Operations partners to support strategic initiatives and drive business performance.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the commercial and hotel property accounting team to drive high performance.
  • Serve as the main contact for Operations, providing expertise in property accounting, financial reviews, and operational analysis.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance the efficiency and reliability of accounting processes and systems.
  • Oversee property accounting and financial reporting to ensure accurate, timely results.
  • Partner with Operations to prepare annual budgets and manage the distribution of rental notices.
  • Manage joint venture portfolios, including audit-ready financial statements and board reporting materials.
  • Review commercial leases and oversee tenant operating cost recoveries and related data inquiries.
  • Enforce corporate accounting policies and internal controls to maintain financial integrity.
  • Review audit schedules and act as the lead liaison for internal and external audits.
Your strengths include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • CPA designation or active pursuit is a strong asset.
  • Proven management experience, ideally in commercial real estate or property management.
  • Proficient in MS Office; Yardi or similar system experience highly preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed to various offices
  • Strategic, results-driven thinker with a strong track record of achievement.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive culture and attract, retain, and develop top talent.
  • Strong prioritization, time management, and project execution skills.
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and conflict‑resolution skills.
