Our client: A leading real estate investment and property management firm specializing in US/Canada cross-border taxation for partnership structures and international investors.
Principal tasks and responsibilities include:
- Lead and oversee the entire tax function, including tax compliance season coordination and deadline management
- Partner with Big 4 service providers to complete US and Canadian corporate and partnership tax returns
- Review federal, state, and local income tax returns for US partnerships and corporations, including K-1s, Form 1099, Forms 8804/8805, Form 8813, and Form 1042
- Review Canadian corporate federal and provincial income tax returns, and related tax forms (T5, T1134, T1135, T106)
- Prepare and standardize "Canadianization" calculations to convert US taxable income to Canadian taxable income for non-US investors
- Review working papers and supporting documents prepared by the accounting team
- Review year-end adjusting journal entries proposed by external service providers
- Provide proactive guidance to the accounting team on tax-related matters and resolve complex tax issues
- Conduct tax research and summarize findings for management
- Support ad hoc tax projects as needed
Qualifications and pre-requisites:
- Minimum 5 years of experience reviewing US partnership and corporate tax returns
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business; CPA designation required
- Deep knowledge of partnership and corporate tax matters, including flow-through entities (S Corporations, Partnerships, LLCs)
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe
- Experience with accounting/tax software such as Taxprep, OneSource, MRI, or QuickBooks
