    The Opportunity


    Reporting directly to the Commissioner of Finance / Chief Finance Officer, this role is responsible for handling all of the financial affairs of the municipality in accordance with the Commissioner of Finance/CFO’s direction and the Municipal Act, making changes in financial policies and programs as appropriate. You will support all departments in the financial planning and budgeting process and manage the determination and collection of development charges to minimize financial risk. You will be responsible for overseeing 4 direct reports, 15 indirect reports and manage Caledon’s total budget of approximately $145 million, as well as assets valued at approximately $1.3 billion. As the Treasurer, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:



    • Development and Communication of the Development Charges Background Study, which is a study to quantify the growth-related infrastructure required in the future and the charges to apply to the development community to recover some of the infrastructure costs, as allowed under the Development Charges Act. The Act requires this study every 5 years or sooner as required.
    • Tracking, analysis and projections related to Development Charges, Development Charge Reserve Funds, and Development Charge Credit Agreements, as well as overseeing requests for security and insurance renewals, security reductions and releases.
    • Directs the approval of all legislatively mandated requirements under various acts, codes and by-laws set out by Federal, Provincial or Municipal levels of government.
    • Assists departments with financial and business analysis to implement recommendations of departmental business plans, reports, master plans and other initiatives.
    • Lead the development and ongoing implementation of the Town’s Corporate Asset Management Program, reporting and updating the Asset Management Plan to ensure sustainability of the Town’s infrastructure assets and to meet legislated reporting requirements.

    The Ideal Candidate

    We are seeking a knowledgeable professional with a post-secondary degree/diploma in Accounting, Finance or a or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in municipal finance and five (5) years related leadership or supervisory experience with managing projects and complicated cases. The successful candidate must possess a CPA designation.

    The ideal candidate will have demonstrated the ability to make decisions involving long-term strategic policies. We are seeking an individual with superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, as well as a demonstrated ability to work independently, lead policy changes and steer corporate decisions, and the ability to manage/oversee budget with some advice, and for the Division/Department.

    The successful candidate for the Treasurer will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).



    This position offers a salary range of $145,004.33- $177,703.97 plus a competitive benefit package.
