Technical Writer (Software Documentation)
Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our staffing practice has an opening in the Online Retail space for a Technical Writer with 5+ years experience in software documentation for an external client preferably in the Retail/Ecommerce space as well as end to end documentation experience for a net new application / implementation to place at our client.
Client: Publicly traded Technology Company on the NASDAQ who conducts Grocery delivery & pick-up service and Customer Shopping Solutions in the United States and Canada.
Start date: ASAP.
Office Location: Downtown Toronto
Terms: 6 month contract to start, possibility of extension
Hybrid: preferred on weekly basis
Technical Writer – Job Description
OVERVIEW
Our Client’s Platform is a retail enablement platform with solutions for online and in-store commerce. We are looking for an experienced technical writer to work with our enterprise teams to document our white-label e-commerce capabilities, including online shopping, checkout, fulfillment, and order status management.
You’ll work directly with our Product Engineering and Management teams to understand our products, market, and audience, and then create a positive, engaging learning experience for retailers that will ultimately drive adoption and ubiquity of our products. Deliverables include release notes, product documentation, integration and deployment guides, FAQs, product tutorials, API documentation, and more.
Project/Day to Day:
- Working to streamline the commerce platform used for all transactions and taxes
- Streamline all of the documentation in the platform and then move to maintenance mode
- Platform just moved to a new team and need to streamline it to the teams methodology
ABOUT THE JOB
- Work with internal teams (e.g., Product and Engineering) to understand our Client’s solutions, use cases, and documentation requirements for retailers.
- Produce high-quality documentation that is tailored to our target audience.
- Create diagrams and other visual aids.
- Edit content created by teammates,
- Work with the Product Marketing team to understand and collaborate on positioning, tone and messaging.
- Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation.
ABOUT YOU
- 5+ years’ experience working in technical writing of software documentation
- Experience with API Documentation or wrote for Developers
- Experience working at a Fintech, banking (payment/transactions)
- Experience in making complex concepts and/or technical products easy to understand for a business / non-technical audience
- Ability to deliver high-quality documentation paying attention to detail
- Proven track record of putting process and best practices in place
- Understands how to provide and maintain the external voice of a company
- Highly motivated, with the drive to improve existing deliverables, initiate new actions in line with business objectives, and deliver results, often under tight deadlines.
- Superb grammar and spelling
- Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities in a high-pressure, results-driven environment
- Knowledge of current technical writing methods, trends, and technologies
- Preferred but not mandatory: University degree or college diploma in English,
- Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field
