Tax Manager – Public Accounting
Permanent | Hybrid (3 days in office)
Locations: Mississauga or Burlington, ON
Compensation: $110,000 – $140,000 + bonus & benefits
About the Opportunity
Our client is a well-established, highly respected public accounting firm in the GTA with a strong reputation for client service, culture, and long-term career development. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join their Tax team in a permanent leadership role.
This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA-designated tax professional who enjoys a balance of technical work, client interaction, and people leadership — and who is looking for a firm that genuinely prioritizes work-life balance while still offering clear growth and advancement.
The role can be based out of either the Mississauga or Burlington office and follows a hybrid model (3 days in office), with additional flexibility after onboarding. The firm also offers a 4-day work week during the summer months, setting them apart in the public accounting space.
The Role
As Tax Manager, you will play a key leadership role within the Tax department, overseeing complex tax engagements, mentoring staff, and supporting the continued growth of the firm. The position is split between client-facing tax work and departmental leadership, making it ideal for someone ready to step into a visible, impactful role.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Technical Leadership
Review corporate, personal, and trust tax returns (T2, T1, T3)
Review GST/HST and other indirect tax filings
Lead and support CRA audits, tax queries, and dispute resolution
Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services
Advise on reorganizations, succession planning, estates, M&A, and cross-border matters
Identify tax risks and develop mitigation strategies for clients
Team & Department Leadership
Lead tax engagements and ensure work is completed on time and on budget
Mentor, develop, and coach staff at various levels
Contribute to departmental planning, workflow improvements, and process enhancements
Act as a technical resource for internal team members
Support recruitment, retention, and succession planning within the Tax group
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive team culture
What Our Client Is Looking For
CPA designation required
Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program (required)
5–7+ years of public accounting experience, with 3–4+ years in a tax-focused role
Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory capacity
Strong technical knowledge of Canadian tax legislation
Proficiency with CaseWare, TaxPrep, CCH iFirm, and MS Office
Tech-savvy and comfortable working in a modern, paperless environment
Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
A long-term mindset and interest in continued growth within the firm
