Job Summary

The McKesson Canada Sr. Systems Administrator acts as a technical and consulting resource for moderately complex issues related to the implementation and management of information technology systems. Provides third-level support for the on-premises and cloud environments in all locations and distribution centers. Acts as a technical resource in all phases of design, implementation and deployment of project lifecycles, including post-production support. Continuously gains an understanding of McKesson’s business operations and processes and how systems are used in support of those operations. Works under general supervision and uses discretion to resolve various problems and inquiries.





Section A – Specific Responsibilities

Certain responsibilities associated with this role are included in Section B.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend solutions within the Windows environment (On-prem and Cloud) to improve performance and efficiency.

  • Test, validate, and implement new technological solutions and modifications before they become operational and in production.

  • Develop and maintain detailed flow charts and work process documents and appropriate procedures that support the Windows architecture.


  • Compile information and data and prepare reports related to computer systems and functions.

  • Assist and participate (along with other teams) in system developments, comprehensive implementation, and maintenance project plans on the enterprise technology infrastructure.

  • Maintain a variety of records, accounts, logs, and files related to systems; prepare and purge records as necessary.

  • Use the McKesson Change Management process to implement changes in production and disaster recovery environments.


  • Use the McKesson Incident Management process and tools to resolve third-level incidents assigned to the group.

  • Actively maintain and improve personal and technical skills with appropriate material via books, websites, newsletters, magazines, seminars, and training.

  • Build internal and external relationships with key suppliers, customers, and internal service providers, with an emphasis on facilitating successful job/role responsibilities.

  • Respect and adhere to McKesson Standards, Policies, and Procedures.

  • Meet job performance standards and objectives outlined in the progress and appraisal guidelines.






Section C – Position Requirements

Knowledge:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in managing large enterprise server environments including mission critical applications.

  • Expert-level knowledge of Active Directory, VMware, Windows server, and storage architecture.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure is essential.


  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills capable of quickly adapting to new technologies.



Ability to:

  • Drive first-time quality results and lead support operations and initiatives.


  • Quickly understand complex problems and develop solutions to resolve issues expediently.

  • Work well under pressure and apply critical decision-making skills when needed.

  •  Be self-motivated capable of establishing priorities and setting their own goals and direction.

  • Effectively work with diverse peers and team members, managers, and external contacts.


  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English. French would be considered an asset.

As part of Total Rewards, we are proud to offer a competitive compensation package at McKesson. This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered. 



Our Base Pay Range for this position

$84,500 – $140,800
