The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Digital Architecture, you will be responsible for leading a group of developers in various global locations, building the critical components that make up the next iteration of Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre and LIbreView diabetes management platform, which supports 49+ countries. We’re focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.

What You’ll Do



  • This is a hands-on role, while you may not be spending all day writing code, you will still need to roll up your sleeves to ensure the technical success of multiple concurrent projects. 


  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge and proficiency in the complete software development lifecycle; leads and is accountable for the software design, code interfaces and for all features developed within the mobile applications. 


  • Defines the software design architecture for React Native applications, identifying the best practice approaches to creating features, components, and their internal and external interactions. 


  • Defines system-level design documentation and standardizes technology-specific implementation patterns based upon industry best-practice for ReactNative application development. 



  • Defines standard practice for third-party software component/integration. Sets the go-to set of strategy for third-party integrations across projects. 


  • Standardizes the optimal design patterns, coding styles, software development environments, unit testing environment, integration testing environment and performance testing environment for all ReactNative application development. 


  • Works collaboratively with the DevOps and SecOps teams to roll out the roadmap for CI/CD, third-party component management, and cybersecurity design for ReactNative applications. 


  • Leads ReactNative and core mobile architecture for CI/CD, deployment, networking, and security in collaboration with the DevOps and SecOps teams and industry best-practice. 



  • Ensures all mobile applications are architected and developed in a way that enables scalable test automation, including hardware and external interface simulation. 


  • Defines, maintains, and works with a cross-functional team to implement an optimal hardware testing and application simulation architecture. 


  • Provides technical leadership to ReactNative application developers and guides them to build high-quality and best-practice applications efficiently. 


  • Author’s and maintains architecture description documents across projects, and high-level design documents throughout the SDLC. 


  • Understand the local market to implement solutions for business needs, such as local hospital integrations, personalized workflows for specific regulations, and helping adapt digital solutions.


Required Qualifications

  • Undergraduate university studies that normally last four years in Computer Science, Information Technology or another relevant field.

  • Three to five years of previous work experience.



  • Experience in designing scalable architectures for mobile applications and specifically developing ReactNative mobile applications in an enterprise-level environment. 


  • Demonstrated ability in leading and mentoring a team of ReactNative engineers across multiple projects. 


  • Expert knowledge in hands-on developing mobile applications using the ReactNative framework. 


  • Experience desired in other languages like Java, Swift & agile methodologies. 



  • Can demonstrate senior level knowledge in TypeScript and experience implementing ReactNative applications with TypeScript. 


  • Senior level of understanding of test-driven methodologies. 


  • Knowledge with continuous integration & continuous development (CI/CD) for mobile application development using enterprise toolsets. 


  • Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought. 



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 


  • Advanced ability to develop & design applications at the feature level. 


  • Senior-level understanding of engineering design patterns. 

  • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills 



  • Ability to document and maintain design patterns that will be used across multiple applications. 


  • Evolves the application architecture to support future requirements and defines its service level agreements (SLAs). 


  • Leads the technical excellence of the ReactNative implementations across projects and creates plans to mitigate field issues as the technology and industry evolve.
