The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Data Governance & Data Quality to lead Aviva’s enterprise Data Quality program and strengthen our data governance practices across the organization. In this role, you will develop data quality policies and framework, improve data controls, reduce risk, and influence data strategy across all business units.
This is a people‑leader position and requires 3 days per week in office.
What You Will Do
- Lead the Enterprise Data Quality Program
- Build and operate Data Quality as an enterprise program aligned to business goals.
- Develop and implement data quality policies, standards, frameworks, and procedures.
- Maintain and enhance Critical data register, Data transfer register, Data maps, technical data diagrams. Improve and enhance data quality assessments and metrics across the enterprise.
- Develop and Maintain technical and business data glossaries, artifacts, processes with clear ownership and accountability.
- Translate standard and policies into framework, processes, artifacts and risk documentation.
- Collaborate with the Data owners and Data principles across the enterprise to deliver the key milestones required to accomplish data quality roadmap.
- Drive Data Quality Improvements
- Lead enterprise initiatives to address regulatory expectations, audit findings, and target‑state maturity. Drive improvements and enhancements to data quality framework and program to ensure compliance to OSFI E21 and E23.
- Improve and manage enterprise Data quality issue management process with clear plans to remediate issues across different teams.
- Enhance the connectivity of data quality artifacts for critical data and develop data lineage and traceability across all the Enterprise.
- Improve and setup metadata management, cataloguing, classification, and lineage capture.
- Oversee Compliance, Controls & Reporting
- Deliver all remediation work on core risk “Inadequate Data Quality.”
- Update control design and ensure operating effectiveness of controls. Provide data quality assurance on the controls owned.
- Develop a scorecard with key metrics to measure the performance of the controls and overall performance of data quality as a program (including but not limited to metrics that are key leading indicators for operational resiliency).
- Lead control effectiveness testing, regulatory compliance activities, attestations, and remediation.
- Manage Critical Data Assets
- Own the Critical Data Register and the lifecycle of Critical Data Elements.
- Govern data transfers, mappings, and workflows to ensure integrity and traceability.
- Integrate governance practices into operational processes and change management.
- Partner Across Business Units & Markets
- Collaborate with Canadian and global teams to advance maturity of data quality and data governance as a function.
- Serve as the SME for Data Governance and Data Quality for business and technical stakeholders.
- Support Platform Modernization
- Provide governance oversight for Snowflake migrations.
- Promote the effective use of governance and DQ platforms, including stewardship workflows.
- Act as product owner for governance capabilities in Snowflake Horizon.
What You’ll Bring
- 10+ years leading enterprise Data Quality or Data Governance programs.
- 5+ Enterprise program management expertise
- 5+ years of experience in Data risk and controls with ability to design the controls and test them for operating effectiveness.
- 4+ years working with Snowflake or Databricks
- Strong experience with DQ/governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Atlan).
- Strong regulatory, compliance, and audit readiness background.
- Ability to lead large programs and influence senior stakeholders.
- Expertise in metadata, cataloging, profiling, lineage, and data quality reporting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex topics.
What You’ll Get
- The salary band for this position ranges from $135,000 to $150,000. Please note that individual salary is determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience, as well as internal equity.
