Senior Financial Analyst – Energy Investments

Key Responsibilities:
Provide guidance and support to Settlements Analyst. Assist Settlements Analyst with new processes, discrepancies, and month end deliverables when required.
Review entries validated and provided by the Settlement Analyst such as market, bilateral and transmission invoices, etc. for accounting accuracy and completeness. Ensure market payables are paid on time – communicating with appropriate departments such as Accounts Payable and Treasury.
Prepare monthly accruals, journal entries and complete forecast updates as required. Manage month end close process. Ensure all clearing accounts balance, ledgers are accurate, and all entries are posted correctly for monthly reporting.
Prepare monthly analysis and variance explanations for performance reporting such as, but not limited to, price volume analysis and cash flow projections and financial submissions for Corporate and Board reporting. As well as operating expense reporting to business unit managers for the purpose of budget management.
Prepare fair value analysis/modeling and journal entries for transmission congestion contracts, renewable energy certificates and other derivatives as required.
Prepare quarterly reports with support such as balance sheet and income statement variance analysis and explanations.
Prepare various calculations such as market benchmarks and other value-added calculations, as well as data validation for National Energy Board reporting.
Develop annual operating and capital budgets (when required) in coordination with proper affiliates. Ensure budget is inputted into forecasting software and presentations and board reports are completed and supported for the purpose of budget approval.
Assist in providing support for annual external audits as well as any ad hoc internal audit request, request for information, or other analysis and reporting as required.
What We're Looking For:
Excellent analytical skills and problem-solving abilities with high proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, most importantly Microsoft Excel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; and interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of various teams.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment is critical to success.
What You'll Need:
A university degree in Commerce or Business Administration supplemented with a professional accounting designation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, excel modeling, budgeting and forecasting or reporting, preferably in the energy industry.
Experience related to the Electric Utility industry is considered an asset.
