Our GCML Team is seeking a Senior Estimator, based out of our office in Markham, Ontario. Through a thorough understanding of tender documents, the successful candidate will prepare detailed cost estimates using estimating software of the full project scope including labour, equipment, raw materials, purchased equipment and subcontractors. Tender closings are to meet all submission deadlines.

The candidate ideally possesses a demonstrated, solid background in MTO tendering—involving all scopes of earth and rock grading, aggregate manufacturing, road building, underground services, bridge and structure construction and hot mix paving—to establish tender costs from first principles.Accurately interpret and comprehend tender drawings and specifications for all projects up to $1 Billion.Contribute to, or lead (as appropriate) the estimating efforts on various bids for projects within civil, watermain and sewer. Present all aspects of the project scope, staging, timing, constraints, risks, and potential cost saving opportunities and alternatives to internal staffPricing activities into the Hard Dollar and Bid2Win estimating programAble to successfully and independently lead a Design-Build project through the tender stage, including involvement in team meetingsAbility to chair meetings and set project goalsPerform and/or direct quantity take-offs from tender drawings.Prepare initial tender schedule for handoff to field staff.Consistently and insightfully formulate all tender costs—labour, material, equipment, and procure subcontractor scope and costs—for quotation submission.Close tenders—including tender reviews and sub-proposal reviews and analysis.Accountable for accuracy of tender submissions.Prepares bid bond and insurance request formsMaintain files and correspondence on active tenders.Customer follow-up on submitted tenders/proposals.Cost out potential scope of work changes/additional cost/claims situations.Monitor active projects and provide job cost evaluation to management.Provide technical support to field staff.Communicate with field staff and Clients.Assist in maintenance of estimating department policies, procedures and standards.Mentorship of junior employees.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.Enough about us, let’s talk about you.University Degree – Civil Engineering or College Graduate – Civil Technology preferred.Minimum 10 years experience in the construction industry, with 10 years experience in estimating.Direct experience in Design-Build estimates and team processes.Strong team and communication skills—reading, writing, and oral skills in English.Capable of reading and understanding construction drawings and documents.Computer proficiency – proficiency in an estimating package is a must, and Word and Excel would be an asset.Thorough understanding OPSS and CDED.Experience with MTO contracts, Metrolinx and/or municipal works.Self motivated for success.Ability to work accurately under pressure.Ability to work with, and direct others, as a team.Valid drivers license.
