About The Role


McCain Foods is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager. This leader is responsible for leading engineering, maintenance, and technical support functions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant assets. The Senior Engineering Manager drives asset reliability, capital execution, and continuous improvement while supporting production, safety, quality and cost objectives. The role partners closely with Operations, Safety, Finance and Corporate Engineering to deliver sustainable results aligned with McCain standards and priorities.


Success in this role depends on strong prioritization, judgment and the ability to lead through influence across multiple locations.


What You’ll Be Doing



  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Maintenance and Engineering functions, including Processing Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, Planning, Environmental, Boiler and Refrigeration, Stockroom and related technical areas.

  • Ensure appropriate staffing, capability and training across engineering and maintenance teams, conduct performance reviews, coaching and development planning.

  • Provide coverage and leadership continuity in the absence of the Maintenance Manager and Environmental Supervisor, as required.

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve engineering and maintenance standards, installation techniques and standard operating practices.

  • Evaluate and introduce new process technologies to improve equipment reliability, safety, quality and efficiency.

  • Lead the application of McCain Driving Impact (MDI) and Lean Manufacturing principles across Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and People (SQCDP).

  • Provide technical support to production teams to resolve process, equipment and safety issues.

  • Lead capital projects from concept through execution, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and in compliance with corporate engineering standards.

  • Define project scope, prepare technical requirements and coordinate with internal and external engineers to ensure alignment with plant and corporate standards.

  • Prepare and manage Requests for Expenditure Authorization (REA) in partnership with Finance, Operations and Safety.

  • Acquire, evaluate and negotiate contractor and supplier bids; prepare tender documents and manage vendor relationships.

  • Oversee equipment and system design reviews, supplier documentation and resolution of technical issues.

  • Develop, manage and administer the engineering and maintenance operating and capital budgets.

  • Monitor expenditures, identify cost‑saving opportunities and ensure financial discipline across all engineering activities.

  • Effectively allocate internal and external resources to support operational priorities and project execution.

  • Serve as a key leader in fire protection, environmental and safety‑related engineering processes, coordinating with insurers, brokers, Finance and plant teams.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Manitoba and Canadian regulations, corporate standards and insurance requirements.

  • Reinforce a strong safety culture through design, maintenance practices and leadership behaviour.

  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of engineering documentation, including project reports, meeting minutes, material lists, purchase orders, installation schedules and technical records.

  • Maintain disciplined project governance and documentation standards to support audits, compliance and long‑term asset management.


What You’ll Need To Be Successful



  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required.

  • Professional Engineering License is required.

  • 5 years leading teams and mentoring supervisors.

  • 5 years of progressive engineering experience with a minimum of 2 years directly related to food processing.

  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

  • Sound fact‑based decision making and problem‑solving skills with a focus on delivering results and resolving day‑to‑day operational challenges.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and successfully lead projects/work teams of up to 150 people.

  • Adaptable and flexible team player who is a champion of change.

  • Skilled in developing and executing strategic site plans.

Compensation Package: $111,700.00 – $149,000.00 CAD annually + Bonus Eligibility.
