The core parts of your role would be to:

  • Credit:  
  • Conduct Commercial Credit Reviews in line with the relevant policies and procedures in order to assess the soundness of underwriting procedures and processes and determine if they are being followed. This includes a specific focus on risk rating assignments in order to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the Bank’s rating policies.
  • Assist in providing ongoing feedback and recommendations as to whether the Company maintains adequate credit policies within the risk appetite described in Equitable Bank’s ICAAP and recommend modifications to these policies as required to manage risk within prevailing economic conditions.
  • Assist in the oversight of the management of the credit functions across the business lines to ensure that credit policies are adhered to in the Company.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports to the Senior Manager, Credit Risk, or Senior Management as related to credit risk across the Company.
  • Support the development and ongoing enhancements of relevant credit risk Policies and Procedures, including but not limited to the Credit Risk and Quality Assurance Procedure Manual and relevant Commercial business unit policies and procedures.
  • Assist and provide insights into risk management aspects of the development of new credit products.
  • Provide ongoing feedback pertaining to the Commercial Credit Reviews and QA Operational reviews in order to ensure that relevant criteria are being reviewed and recommend enhancements where applicable.
  • Quality Assurance (QA): 

  • Provide input for the development and maintenance of programs to support a comprehensive and effective compliance regime with regard to legislation, regulations and internal policies applicable to Commercial Credit.
  • Provide support on QA Commercial Operational quality reviews to ensure that underwriting guidelines are being followed appropriately.
  • Review and analyze mortgage applications, corporate documentation, credit reports, income/employment documentation and funding documentation to determine accuracy and completeness.
  • Must have the ability to read and understand the Credit Risk Analysis performed by the business prior to completing a thorough review and substantiating observations.
  • Sound understanding of different product-types within commercial lending and the different process’ that surround each product, such as small commercial mortgages, large commercial loans and mortgages, CMHC Insured product and Third Party Serviced loans and mortgages.
  • Have the ability to visualize, articulate, conceptualize or solve both complex and uncomplicated documents and/or problems by making decisions that are sensible given the available information and resources.
  • Review data accuracy to ensure the information is consistently and routinely applied to the Company’s internal system.
  • Analyze and validate all reported observations and provide detailed and accurate documentation to substantiate findings.
  • Assist in the identification of new and evolving fraud trends or systematic patterns.
  • Provide support to the front-line business for any new initiatives that may directly affect the review process or business unit objectives.
  • Provide excellent customer service to other departments through professional written and verbal communication.
  • Prepare training documentation as well as assist in training new staff or peers.
  • Bennington Financial Corporation (BFC):  


  • Work with the Senior Manager, Credit Risk, in conducting regular file reviews within the BFC division. Assist in the quarterly sample selection, testing execution and report compilation. Compile quarterly (or more frequent where requested) reporting for Senior Management to provide insight into origination and underwriting activities.
  • Assist in the review of credit policies and procedures and implementation of best practices.
  • Assist in providing feedback towards regular quarterly and/or ad-hoc reporting including but not limited to originations and non-performing loans (NPL).

  • AIRB: 

  • The Senior Analyst will be expected to provide feedback regarding risk input and oversight into the creation and ongoing maintenance of Advanced Internal Ratings Based Risk systems for Commercial, and new products.
  • Support Risk Capital & Analytics (RCA) and provide Credit Risk input into the development or enhancements of financial models to assist in validating Credit Risk Assessment of new initiatives, consider organizational impact and returns on regulatory and economic capital.
  • Let’s Talk About You!

  • 1-3 years of Credit Risk Management experience
  • 5-8 years of lending experience with expertise in a combination of commercial banking, retail lending including single family mortgages, real estate lending including construction and commercial mortgages, asset-based lending or leasing, and portfolio management experience.
  • Post-secondary education (diploma/degree), preferably in business or finance.
  • Demonstrated performer who is a team player, detail oriented and excels at the execution of complex tasks.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance laws and regulations
  • Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment.
  • Proven ability to work toward team goals and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate to Senior Management, written and verbally, in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Deep understanding of real estate/commercial/asset-based underwriting and valuation techniques (NPV (Net present value), IRR (Internal Rate of Return), determination and capitalization of NOI (Net operating Income)), financial statement analysis, secured lending and factors affecting the mortgage market.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to contribute to multiple competing priorities is a must.

    The role provides for autonomy while contributing to the development of the second line oversight function as the Bank continues to evolve. Staying apprised of regulatory, economic and business developments and the ability to synthesize those is paramount to the role’s success.
  • Identifying and quantifying risk across the commercial portfolio which the role provides oversight involves complex thinking and in-depth problem solving. The Senior Analyst is responsible for monitoring adherence to credit policy, providing insights into the development of these policies and critically analyzing large amounts of financial and risk data. They will be relied upon to use their expertise and judgement when providing feedback on risk ratings, various reporting and program development within Credit, QA, BFC and AIRB.
