What You Will Do

In this role, you will work as a Full-time Registered Practical Nurse within the Client Services department of Regional HIV/AIDS Connection, specifically out of our John Gordon Home location. Within this capacity, you will report to the Manager of Resident Care while supporting the residents of John Gordon Home in a multidisciplinary team.

In This Work, You Will

Administer medication as prescribed and maintain related records. Input prescription medication orders and liaise with pharmacists, doctors and other medical professionals
Observe and assess residents; and report any changes or unusual occurrences, e.g., rashes, bruised skin, scratches, behaviour, etc.
Provide basic nursing care to residents, build rapport, and educate about harm reduction and health promotions, including safe injection and overdose prevention.
Educate and coach residents to self-administer prescribed medication as they prepare to transition from the John Gordon Home. Follow CNO Practice Guidelines for working with unregulated care providers.
Complete daily documentation.
Perform other related activities, as necessary or as assigned.

What You Will Bring

Registered Practical Nurse Diploma and a member in good standing of the College of Nurses.
Current certificates in First Aid/CPR, CPI, Fit Test, Naloxone, and Safe Food Handling are preferred.
Vulnerable sector police record check.
5 years of related experience working independently is preferred
Lived/living experience that may be relevant to the position's focus on HIV, HCV, sexual health, harm reduction, substance use, sex work and diverse communities – considered an asset
Knowledge and skills related to applying the following to service delivery: Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Anti Racism/Anti Oppression, Sex Positivity, Principles of Harm Reduction, Holistic Health and Civil Society
Knowledge and skills related to working with people who are living with, at risk of or impacted by HIV/HCV; who may be vulnerable and marginalized; and may also be experiencing challenges related to mental health, substance use and homelessness
Harm reduction knowledge and skills
Interpersonal skills including crisis intervention knowledge and skills and oral and written communication knowledge and skills
Food preparation knowledge and skills
Safe sharps handling and disposal knowledge and skills
Social services knowledge, including availability of community resources
