The Opportunity in Short
We are excited to add a new Regional Branch Manager (Prairies) to the Portage Mutual team. Reporting to the Vice‑President Underwriting and Business Development, the Regional Branch Manager is a key leadership role responsible for driving the long‑term success, compliance, and cultural transformation of the Prairies region. This in‑office role splits time between the Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie offices.
Position Title: Regional Branch Manager (Prairies)
Reports to: Vice‑President Underwriting and Business Development
Location: Manitoba – in‑office position split between Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie
Major Responsibilities of the Regional Branch Manager
- Regional Strategy and Transformation: Lead the development and execution of regional strategies aligned with national objectives to drive sustainable growth, promote a unified organizational culture, and serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership.
- Operations, Risk & Compliance and Financial Excellence: Drive operational efficiency and financial performance, oversee regional budgets, risk profiles, underwriting accounts, and broker relationships, and represent the region to provincial regulators.
- Leadership and Team Engagement: Build and empower high‑performing, agile teams across both branches, fostering continuous improvement and inclusive culture.
What You Will Bring (Required Qualifications)
- Post‑secondary degree in business, commerce, management or related discipline.
- Industry designations required (e.g., CIP, FCIP, CRM).
- Training in leadership, organizational change or strategic planning an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of industry experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role managing large teams.
- Broad understanding of underwriting, claims, risk management, HR, finance, marketing, and sales.
- Proven ability to lead teams through complex projects, regulatory changes, and technology or process transformation.
- Demonstrated success in developing people, strengthening workplace culture, and supporting employee growth.
- Experience promoting cross‑functional alignment and building a unified organizational culture.
- Strong commitment to inclusivity, integrity, and company values.
- Visionary leadership with capacity to drive cultural transformation.
- Exceptional people‑leadership skills and talent development.
- Strong communication and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to build effective relationships with internal teams, brokers, regulators, associations, and community partners.
- Skilled in collaborating with union representatives and managing workplace stability.
- Deep knowledge of compliance, risk management, and regulatory standards (Health & Safety, AODA).
- Strategic thinking and future planning capabilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Financial acumen and experience with budgets and performance metrics.
- Ability to foster cross‑functional collaboration across underwriting, claims, loss prevention, marketing, etc.
- Experience leading teams through organizational and regulatory change, process improvement, and technology adoption.
