Real Estate Law Clerk
Job Description
Our client, a well-established, full-service law firm in London, Ontario, is seeking a Real Estate Law Clerk to join their team.
Responsibilities
- Conduct title searches using Teranet and Ontario Land Registry Access (OnLand) to verify ownership, legal descriptions, and PINs
- Review chain of title and registered instruments, including transfers, charges, discharges, easements, restrictive covenants, and notices
- Identify, analyze, and report title issues and assist in resolving defects or discrepancies
- Review Agreements of Purchase and Sale, amendments, and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare detailed title search summaries and reports
- Prepare and electronically register conveyancing documents in accordance with applicable legislation
- Order and review execution searches, tax certificates, zoning compliance letters, and utility information
- Monitor closing requirements and ensure all conditions are satisfied in a timely manner
- Prepare and organize closing documentation, registrations, authorizations, and directions
- Maintain organized client files and support file management processes
- Communicate effectively with lawyers, clients, and third parties regarding file progress and closing requirements
- Produce high-quality work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines
- Assist with additional duties and special projects as required
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in residential real estate law, with a focus on title searching
- Strong knowledge of the Land Titles Act, Registry Act, and related real estate legislation
- Proven experience handling real estate transactions from title search through closing
- High attention to detail and accuracy in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Office and document management systems
- Experience with Teranet and OnLand is required
Compensation
- Salary range: $70,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience
- Fully in-office position in London, Ontario
- Permanent, full-time role within a collegial and supportive team environment
