Job Synopsis
The Mission of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) Thrift Shops is to create local and global impact through innovative nonprofit enterprises. Through over 85 shops across North America, revenue is generated for MCC's global relief and development projects, and for local communities through Community Support programs and MCC Saskatchewan's local Programs. As part of the MCC Thrift North American network, MCC Saskatchewan (MCCS) owns and operates 6 MCC Thrift shops in Saskatchewan. The shops are in Herbert, Lanigan, Rosthern, Warman, Saskatoon and Swift Current.
MCC is a charitable organization that works with partners worldwide to walk with people who are disadvantaged. MCC supports activities that provide emergency assistance, reduce poverty, and promote healthy communities, sustainable living and alternatives to violence. MCC currently serves in more than 45 countries with over 475 partners.
The Village Green MCC Thrift shop provides quality used clothing and furniture at reasonable prices to a growing market. The Production Associate is accountable to the Production Coordinator who will provide directions for the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the Production Associate. This is a salaried, 1.0 FTE (Full Time Equivalency) position, with health and dental benefits available. Daily work hours are typically between 8:00am and 5:30pm, including evenings and Saturdays, with the final schedule determined by the General Manager. The Production Associate will focus their work on the production work in the shop, primarily related to the receiving, sorting, processing and pricing of donations. The Production Associate will demonstrate servant leadership and will ensure the shop is in harmony with the vision and goals of MCCS, and MCC Thrift. Legal eligibility to work in Canada is required.
Demonstrating a positive attitude, Production Associate will provide active, hands-on support, direction, and training to volunteers, ensuring a safe work environment.

Assignment Narrative:
The Production Associate is accountable to the Production Coordinator who will provide directions for the tasks, duties and responsibilities of the Production Associate. The Production Associate will work to ensure a smooth, efficient flow of goods from the donation door to the retail floor. This position requires a self-starter who can make decisions while being flexible and adaptable. They must also be able to work with a team of volunteers

Shop Operations:
- 1-3 years experience in a retail environment and/or warehouse environment
- Ideally 1-3 years experience in a Thrift shop environment
- Knowledge of the second-hand market.
- Knowledge of sustainability practices and waste reduction.
- Proven leadership.
- Excels in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to create and refine systems and processes for increased efficiencies.
- Experience working with volunteers
Communication:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English including reading, writing and analysis.
- Ability to communicate in an articulate, engaging manner with tact and diplomacy when speaking with staff, the public, volunteers, colleagues, and supporters.
General:
- Excellent organizational and relational skills with good attention to detail.
- Commitment to the operating principles of MCC Thrift and the values of MCC including a heart for justice and active peacemaking.
Self-motivated and willing to work both as part of a team and independently in an active retail environment.
Ability to engage and influence others to achieve organizational goals.
- Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions.
- Ability to engage staff and volunteers in creating a positive, customer centric, welcoming atmosphere within the shop, balancing patience, creativity, humour, and energy.
Proven history of taking initiative, leading with creativity and flexibility.
General comfort with computers including ability to learn and adopt new software.
- Ability to work the required non-standard hours, including evenings and Saturdays.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and exert 11 to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- Ability to work 7 or more hours of intermittent standing or walking during a standard workday.
- Ability to repeatedly bend or stoop to floor level shelves and able to reach upper shelves with use of a stool or a ladder when necessary.
- Valid Canadian Driver's License
- Ability to travel domestically, especially within Saskatchewan.
Key Responsibilities
General
- Communicate the MCC mission and values and the mission of the Thrift shops in a positive manner to staff, volunteers, donors and the community at large.
- Model non-violent peace-making in the workplace, community and church.
- Be accountable to a local Christian congregation.
- Participate in MCC workshops and Thrift Shop gatherings.
- Exercise a compassionate spirit with volunteers, donors and customers on issues which arise as people interact within the store. Model reconciliation in daily actions with public, donors and volunteers.
- Communicate the MCC mission and values of the Thrift Shop in a positive manner to donors, volunteers and customers.
- Help ensure that the shop is neat, clean and attractive.
- Support the Retail floor, Receiving and Furniture as and when needed
- Help ensure safety measures are in place for volunteers, customers and staff.
- Help ensure yourself, staff and volunteers adhere to company policies and legal regulations.
- Attend to other miscellaneous duties that may arise from time to time in the work environment.
Shop Operations
- Responsible for the processing of donations
- Work with the Production Coordinator to:
- Manage the flow of goods from Receiving space to retail floor, including storage
- Assist in enforcing receiving standards for donations
- Assist in assessing processing room layout for efficiency and flow and adjust as needed.
- Support the Volunteer Coordinator in the orientation and training of volunteers in production
Note: Physical labour is involved in this position, sometimes requiring the ability to lift upwards of 50 pounds.

This position requires an individual who can assist in casting a vision of a new shop, and supporting the staff, volunteers, donors and customers as the vision is achieved. This position requires a focused individual, who can handle the workload of a busy Thrift Shop including receiving, sorting and selling areas whilst managing relationships with a variety of volunteers, donors and customers.
