Currently seeking two (2) postdoctoral researchers to join Dr. Tracy Smith-Carrier's research team.
Tracy Smith-Carrier is a professor and the Canada Research Chair in Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the School of Humanitarian Studies at Royal Roads University in British Columbia, Canada. Smith-Carrier's research explores access to income and food security, human rights, disability and climate justice, health equity, and basic income. They are an adjunct research professor at the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing at Western University, a research affiliate at the Centre for Human Rights Research at the University of Manitoba, chair of the National Strategic Planning Committee for a Basic Income Guarantee, and an editorial board member of Critical Policy Studies.
As a postdoctoral researcher with the project Research and Knowledge Mobilization to Advance Income Security in Canada and in collaboration and with the guidance of the supervisor, Dr. Tracy Smith-Carrier, and within the project mandate, the postdoctoral researcher will conduct a series of research studies on income security in Canada including research to:
(a) better understand income security provisions across provinces and territories in Canada;
(b) what a basic income could mean for democracy and democratic principles;
(c) ways to introduce greater progressive taxation and curb wealth accumulation;
(d) advancing the domestic implementation of economic, social and cultural human rights.
The postdoctoral researcher will also help design, implement, and evaluate strategies and action plans to co-create, mobilize, and disseminate knowledge to disparate audiences. The postdoctoral researcher will assist Dr. Smith-Carrier in carrying out a large program of research aiming to promote greater income security in Canada; to delineate research studies that they would like to take the initiative on and lead, while also working with Dr. Smith-Carrier's many research teams to advance projects already underway. The postdoctoral research will also be asked to work on knowledge mobilization strategies and actions plans.
Job Requirements
- Develops detailed research designs, monitoring the operationalization of research questions and choice of appropriate techniques of data collection and analysis;
- Develops and implements research instruments; takes on primary responsibility for project management (e.g. planning, resource estimation, coordination and control);
- May supervise other research assistants or clerical staff;
- Conducts multivariate statistical analysis or uni-variate or bi-variate analysis requiring a high level of statistical judgment; may take the lead on report writing or other knowledge mobilisation activities.
- This level is a senior level and works with significant independence. Qualifications and experience require a postgraduate degree in the subject area. Related experience is preferred, with previous research experience required.
