Job Description

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Aboriginal Housing Society, ensuring efficient and responsive service delivery.

  • Oversees equipment uses and service contracts in collaboration with the Maintenance Lead.

  • Lead and implement operational plans and procedures aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives and funding agreements.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as occupancy, arrears, maintenance response time, tenant satisfaction, and other performance indicators.

  • Prepare and present operational reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

  • Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of current and new staff, according to the organization’s needs.


Strategic and Organizational Support



  • Collaborate with the Executive Director on long-term property and asset management planning.

  • Support the development and maintenance of funding proposals, capital project development, and partnership initiatives.

  • Lead or participate in special projects to improve service delivery and organizational impact.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive and mission-driven workplace culture.

  • Manage performance reviews and ensure accountability to organizational standards.


Property and Asset Manager



  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance and asset management programs.

  • Coordinate procurement and manage contracts with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, funding agreements, and organizational policies, including health and safety, fire safety, environmental standards, and landlord-tenant regulations.

  • Maintain accurate records for audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies, including safety and emergency response plans.


Tenant and Community Relations



  • Address escalated tenant concerns, disputes, and complaints in a fair and transparent manner in alignment with organizational policies and values.

  • Support effective communication with tenants and foster a positive, respectful community environment in collaboration with the Tenant Relations Advisors Team.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with tenants, funders, government, agencies and community partners.

  • Contribute operational expertise to policy development discussions and advocate for affordable housing initiatives.


Financial Budgetary Management



  • Develop and manage operational budgets in collaboration with finance staff and the Executive Director.

  • Collaborate with finance staff to ensure accurate accounting for maintenance, utilities and service contracts.

  • Oversee rent collection, arrears management and reporting in collaboration with the Tenancy Relations Advisors Team.

  • Support financial audits and ensure accurate operational financial reporting.

  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality service standards.


Systems and Technology



  • Improve operational efficiency through digital tools and process improvements.

  • Monitor data security, privacy compliance, and accurate record-keeping.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience in housing, property management and nonprofit operations, or related field.

  • Experience managing staff and operational budgets.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a tenant-and community-focused approach.

  • Sound financial and analytical skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

  • Proficiency with property management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and data management tools.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion and the mission of providing safe and affordable housing.

  • Knowledge of landlord-tenant regulations, building operations, building infrastructure, and health and safety standards.


WORKING CONDITIONS:



  • Primarily office-based with regular site visits to housing properties.

  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for meetings, events or emergencies.

  • Valid driver’s license Class 5.

  • Full-time position, standard office hours 8am – 4pm.

  • Ability to provide a clear criminal record check.


Compensation: $38/hr – $45/hr depending upon experience. Benefit package includes 3 weeks of vacation, health and dental coverage, employer matched RRSP up to 5% of wage. Health and Wellness benefit.
