Job Summary

The Team

The Workplace Health and Safety Branch (WHS) is an established team providing the BC Public Service with health planning and promotion, occupational safety, health and rehabilitation, and disability benefits administration services. With 12 Occupational Health Nurses (OHNs) across regional offices in Vancouver, Victoria, and Kamloops, we collaborate with ministries, agencies, and external employers, alongside Injury Recovery Specialists, Occupational Health Physicians, Medical Case Analysts, and Early-Intervention & Return to Work Specialists. Our mission is to build a culture of safety and health, supporting public service managers and employees in managing their health and improving workforce productivity.

The Role

As an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) 7, you will manage disability cases, providing advice, support, and resource coordination for employees and their supervisors, with a focus on early intervention to help employees return to sustainable work safely and quickly. You will deliver clinical case management services aligned with current occupational health nursing ethics and practice guidelines. Collaborating with a diverse and integrated team of Disability Case Specialists, Injury Recovery Specialists, and Medical Case Analysts, you will be part of a supportive environment dedicated to improving health outcomes and making a meaningful impact on the workforce.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, or a Nursing Degree from an approved School of Nursing.
  • Occupational Health Nursing Education OR equivalent Occupational Health education.
  • Must have or be immediately eligible to obtain registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Six (6) months or more of occupational health nursing experience.
  • Six (6) months or more of disability case management experience.

Preference may be given to candidates with:

  • Certificate in occupational health nursing OHN(C) and/or specialized training in occupational health.
  • Active membership in an occupational health nurses' professional practice group and participation in continuing education, related to disability case management.

About this Position:

Currently there is one (1) temporary opportunity until February 12th, 2027, that may extend or become permanent.

*Bargaining for the collective agreement that covers this position may impact the starting salary, if applicable, upon the conclusion of the upcoming round of collective bargaining between the Employer and BCNU.*

The employer is willing to pay a starting salary at the top end of the salary range depending on qualifications and years of experience and in accordance with the employer policies.

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. There are some onsite requirements.
