Job Description
Position: Seeking Reliable, highly efficient, professional Medical Office Assistant to support Family Physician in a fast- paced Family Practice Clinic
· Part time: hours / week
· Pay: $22 - $24/ hr
Qualification:
1. Experience: Practical experience working in Family Practice Clinic. An understanding of computers is essential, including the use of Electronic medical records ( Telus PS suites Knowledge an asset). Understanding of medical terminologies. Experience working in a collaborative group practice is a definite asset. Knowledge of OHIP medical billing an asset.
Excellent communication skills – confident, polite, and efficient under pressure
Able to Multitask
- Experience with patient rooming and taking vital signs (BP, height, weight, etc.)
- Professional demeanour, Reliable attendance, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and follow clinic protocol
Interpersonal Abilities and Skills:
Ability to function effectively and efficiently both independently and as a member of the interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of patients.
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format with all members of the team; including the ability to function Electronically.
Ability to organize a wide range of job responsibilities and set priorities to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to collaborate with other health team members in a positive manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Documentation:
a. Maintain accurate and concise documentation of all patient encounters on a timely manner, including telephone conversations, conveying of test results, and office encounters within the computerized EMR system.
b. Review all pertinent lab mail and test results in the physician's absence as directed by the physician.
c. Setting up for patient visit.
- Communication:
a. Triage patient telephone calls and questions using problem solving skills within the scope of practice.
b. Listen and respond appropriately when interacting with patients and their families.
c. Liaise with community agencies as needed.
d. Coordinate urgent specialist referrals and appointments as directed by the physician.
e. Demonstrate openness to accept changes that support quality of care.
- Procedures:
a. Complete initial assessment of patient at each visit in order to identify health needs, including blood pressure determination, weight, or any other such information that is pertinent to the presenting issue.
b. Ensure that patient's history is documented and up to date.
c. Ensure that all data and test results are available to the physician at the time of the visit to support the decisions made around medical care.
d. Utilize universal precautions to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
e. Handle and dispose of hazardous and infectious wastes properly according to Infection Control guidelines.
f. Sterilize all medical equipment as required.
g. Maintain physician room setup in good order, according to physician preference, and well stocked.
h. Maintain an adequate supply of immunization and order when necessary.
i. Perform pap smear procedure and immunizations when required.
j. Order medical supplies
- Education and Leadership:
a. Collaborate with other team members to facilitate patient care.
b. Balance team and individual responsibilities in order to contribute to the ongoing development of a positive team spirit and team excellence.
c. Be prepared to contribute in a positive manner to problem solving. Be prepared to accept additional duties and responsibilities in a positive manner.
d. Be proactive, and personally responsible for enrolling in and taking courses to build and maintain medical knowledge/experienced. Work with Dr. Doyin Okoye to identify if the practice can subsidize some of the costs where possible.
e. Act as a resource and role-model for students functioning within the team
Overall, the Office Medical Assistant demonstrates a commitment as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team to the vision and values of the team.

Pay: $22.00-$24.00 per hour
