We’re currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent position of Mechanical Systems Engineer.POSITION OVERVIEWReporting to the Mechanical Systems Technical Lead and working closely with the High-Performance Buildings team, the Mechanical Systems Engineer will be responsible for working with the design community in the commercial, institutional, and multi-unit residential building sectors, focusing on energy efficient building design and functional and operational commissioning in support of high-performance buildings.RESPONSIBILITIESPerform and oversee building energy modelling reviews and evaluations associated with building projects using energy modelling software tools to determine program eligibility.
Review energy models for general conformance to and consistency with energy codes through the review of construction drawing and product/equipment details. Respond to participant inquiries as they relate to program technical issues. Be actively engaged in the building industry to understand market forces to be considered in the development and enhancement of EM programs. Undertake periodic site visits to meet with prospective program applicants and discuss project eligibility.
Provide technical and educational support for the development and evolution of high-performance building codes, regulations, guidelines and standards at the local and national level. Serve as the Efficiency Manitoba liaison related to supporting, updating and promoting adoption of current and future high-performance building codes. Establish and maintain a close working relationship with building design professionals (e.g., architects and engineers), associations, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and trade allies within the design and construction industry. Develop and deliver industry educational presentations on EM programs and building energy modelling at seminars, workshops, and training sessions for internal staff and external stakeholders.Maintain and enhance building systems and energy modelling technical knowledge through educational development.Be actively engaged in relevant industry associations to promote high performance buildings and encourage participation in Efficiency Manitoba programs.Provide modeling and technical support to commercial building programs including, but not limited to, the New Buildings, Commercial Deep Energy Retrofit, Commercial Energy Audit, Custom Energy Solutions, and prescriptive programs.REQUIREMENTSGraduate in Mechanical Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a minimum of four (4) years of related engineering design and construction experience.Eligible for registration and membership with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba as a Professional Engineer.Demonstrated knowledge and a minimum of two (2) years of experience related to energy efficiency.Specialized working knowledge of building energy modelling software (eQUEST, CAN-QUEST, EnergyPlus, Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES)-VE, Trane Trace, Carrier Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) or others);Certification in energy efficiency and sustainability field such as CEM®, CMVP®, BEMP, LEED® and/or others are an assetWorking knowledge of the National Energy Code for Buildings and Manitoba amendments.Familiarity with ASHRAE and CSA standards related to building systems and energy efficiency.Experience with natural gas and electricity rates as used to perform savings calculations for energy efficiency measures in buildings.Proven ability to independently plan, organize and manage multiple projects in specific areas of responsibility involving a high degree of specialization while meeting deadlines and commitments.Must Possess a valid Manitoba driver’s license.

The starting salary for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
