Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Education required to an acceptable level.
- Must have current certification in CPR/AED and Emergency First Aid, issued by an organization recognized in Canada.
EXPERIENCE:
- One year of related experience serving and meeting the public, some experience with computers is preferred.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with sport and recreation facilities is preferred.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with building mechanical systems, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, or similar, would be considered an asset.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong communication and human relation skills to work effectively with all levels of staff, students, the University community at large and visitors to the facilities to facilitate excellent customer service is required.
- Problem solving, exercising good judgment and sound decision-making skills required.

OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Mechanical skills would be an asset. Experience with computer based scheduling applications would be an asset.
- Knowledge of and genuine interest in sport and recreation would be considered an asset. Evening, weekend, and morning work is required.
Key responsibilities
- The incumbent is directly responsible for coordinating and ensuring the efficient day-to-day operation and cleanliness of the Active Living Centre (ALC), Frank Kennedy Centre (FKC), and spaces within Extended Education (EE), with emphasis on time periods outside regular University business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm).
- Receives, investigates and resolves issues related to the operation and use of the facilities and equipment when full-time Facilities staff are not generally present and reports as necessary.
- Is the Alternate Single Point of Contact (SPC) to the Facilities Coordinator or Supervisor, ensuring that building maintenance issues (i.e. broken doors or windows), are reported to Physical Plant. Also participates in ensuring that maintenance / repair work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
- In conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator, assists with maintenance and minor repair of all equipment required for the daily operation of the facilities, including sport and recreation equipment.
- In conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator, maintains the inventory of equipment utilized in the facilities.
- Assists in the cleaning and sanitizing of fitness equipment and spaces within the aforementioned facilities as directed by the Facilities Coordinator.
- In conjunction with other Facilities staff, ensures efficient caretaking of the facilities through constant communication with Caretaking Services.
- Acts as a resource for student Facility Attendants while on shift, assisting in coordination of their duties, and responsibilities.
- Is responsible for the building closing procedures.
- Assists other Facilities Staff with tasks and special projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Shares responsibility for preparation for all special events and activities in the facilities, including the setup and takedown of equipment with the Facilities Coordinator. The incumbent is a main contact person for events in the absence of the Facilities Coordinator, ensuring proper planning and execution of the events and their corresponding equipment or space preparation requirements.
- Shares responsibility for the efficient operation and maintenance of specialty equipment such as sound systems with the Facilities Coordinator.
- As directed by the Facilitates Coordinator, the incumbent works in cooperation with the Customer Service unit and Scheduling Coordinator to proactively plan for upcoming activities and events to ensure minimal disruption to regular operations. Proactively inform users of upcoming events and/or interruptions in regular facility operations.
- Is an important liaison with all guests and stakeholders in the facilities.
- Receives and responds to customer complaints using a collaborative problem solving model resulting in customer satisfaction as much as possible. Keeps detailed records of reports, as needed. Escalates concerns to the Facilities Coordinator or Supervisor as necessary.
- Monitors that the facilities meet all federal, provincial, municipal and University regulations with respect to health and safety, reporting any issues or discrepancies to their Supervisor.
- As directed by the Facilities Coordinator, inspects the facilities and equipment in accordance with the fire safety and risk management plan/policies, and reports findings to their Supervisor.
- Assigned a set of master keys and card access, the incumbent, in conjunction with the Facilities Coordinator, is responsible for maintaining the security of the facilities.
- Serves as Alternate Chief Fire Warden on the early response team for all fire alarms outside of regular University business hours. Is a primary contact and information conduit for any emergency involving the facilities or persons within the facilities.
- Assists all the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Coordinators in the faculty.
- May be required to participate in Local Area Safety and Health Committee.
- May be required to participate in Local Area Risk Management Committee.
- Other duties as assigned.
