Job Description
General Liquids Canada, part of the Municipal Group of Companies, operates various materials testing facilities. We are looking for a dedicated individual with a hands-on practicality and knowledge of soil mechanics, concrete properties, and laboratory testing procedures to work in their laboratory. This is a full-time position.
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled laboratory technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing soil and concrete samples, performing standardized tests, and ensuring accurate and reliable results in accordance with ASTM, CSA, or other relevant standards. This role is essential for supporting our operations with high-quality laboratory data.
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare soil, aggregate, and concrete samples for laboratory testing.
- Fabricate and cure concrete cylinders for compressive strength testing.
- Perform laboratory tests, including but not limited to:
- Compressive strength testing of concrete and mortar
- Hydraulic conductivity/permeability tests on soils
- Soil classification, compaction, and moisture content analysis
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including compression testing machines, permeameters, and sieves, etc.
- Record, analyze, and report test results accurately in compliance with lab procedures and industry standards.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) procedures.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies and materials.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and field personnel to support project requirements.
- All other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, And Experience
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering would be considered an asset.
- Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards related to soil and concrete testing.
- General knowledge of soil mechanics, concrete properties, and laboratory testing procedures.
- Proficient in laboratory documentation and reporting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Maintain a clean working environment.
- Willingness to work extended hours.
- A valid Class 5 driver's license.
- Reliable Transportation to and from work is required.
- Ability to lift up to 25–30 kg (55–65 lbs) and work with heavy lab equipment.
- Comfortable performing repetitive tasks and standing for extended periods.
